You didn't just recommend an 870. If you did, we wouldn't be having to set your bullshit straight now would we?

See... had you just said this and then quit on a good note everything would be fine. But ya didn't, did ya?

There's the rest of your post with the misinformation in bold.

You were then called out on it & proceeded to defend your stance and then you went full retard with....

    &

So you don't keep a gun at your bedside for self defense yet you freely give others advice on the best way to do so. Then you claim that you don't compromise your safety or lose the advantage in a situation yet already admitted to not having a gun and if you did it would be an empty chambered 870 that you could rack the slide on to scare them away. Lastly you state that as long as you live in a certain area or don't deal drugs you don't have anything to worry about and you have 11 years experience in LE so you know this for a fact.

    Dafuq?

Maybe you should 'piss off' before you embarrass yourself with any further contradictions.

Maybe I am losing the upper hand by not having a loaded gun on my night stand. I'm done explaining myself to you. I tried. You're missing it. I'm going to bed. Enjoy your night on the computer. Watch out for noises outside and keep that bug out bag close.

I don't need a bug out bag.. I'm not going anywhere. You can run all you like but when you're the lion you prefer to stick to your den.

    G'night precious.

FFL should only be on handguns, unless where you live has some different laws regarding long guns.

Also if you plan on hunting, depending on what it is, look for a 870 that has the slug and bird barrel combo.

My dad has an 870 magnum express 12 gauge and it's been beat to shit and is almost as good of a gun as my $800 Benelli .He bought it and 500 rounds of ammo for 300 dollars at a Costco years ago. I would definitely buy one if I hadn't already spent the money on a Benelli

Own all three rem870, moss 500, and the h&r pardner pump. Got them for a hell of a deal at a local gun show. My 870 and 500 are both in the gun safe. The h&r is beside the bed rack ready. I have added a pistol grip with a knoxx stock. Hogue forearm and round strap for the knoxx. Why is it beside the bed as opposed to others? Out off all three it has the tightest spread pattern. That's it. I don't feel it is better or worse than the other two after that. It is also stacked loaded. 1 magnum round to 2 bird shot rounds. I hope if I ever have to use it that it will never have to be chambered past that first round.

    This.

Like many other said, the 870 is probably the overall best you would typically find in the stated price range. If you can find an older 870 Wingmaster model for an affordable price, get that and you will have one of the best guns ever made. But for new shotguns, the new 870 Express models at the big box stores are not bad at all. No equal to the Wingmasters but still a very good gun.

Other alternatives you might run across in this price range are older Remington 1100 and 11/87 semi-automatics. The Browning BPS pumps are also very good, probably equal or better than Wingmaster, but I don't know what they might sell for new or used.

Not trying to be a douche dude. Just pointing out that you know what you're talking about regarding Home Defense and firearms in general. Generally a post like that spawns a debate over the adequacies of the chosen route for defending ones self and that was my point

My apologies if I read something more into your post that wasn't intended. I tend to get a bit defensive 'round these parts as there appears to be a handful of members who take offense to good information and attack such posts & subsequently me personally. The little rolleyes emoticon got me reading in the wrong tone I suppose. I redacted my original post to remove the immature comment.

I wouldn't rack my gun if someone breaks in. Racking your gun just tells them that you:

    A: Have a gun
B: The direction you are located at

Some pro's might just shoot that directions and run the F out of your house.

The only sound they should hear from your shotgun is "Bang".

My first gun was a Mossberg 500. I've had it for 13 years now. Never had a problem, always been reliable. I will mention, a friend of mine bought a mossberg 500 from Big 5 not too long ago, and the overall quality of the gun feels cheaper. lighter. it's weird...I don't know if it's a different model, or if over the years mossberg has skimped in quality.

Another friend of mine has had an 870 for about as long as I've had my 500 and his has also performed really well except it can be finicky with some ammo. When his has those issues, mine shoots them just fine.
