    Wattup guys!

I have had several trucks but my first truck was a Tacoma. I then went to a Chevy Silverado 1500 series and now to a Ford F-150 ecoboost. I have officially listed it for sale and will be buying a Tacoma again. I like the full size but I don't use the truck enoigh for what it's capable of. I also want to keep the next purchase for many years and I just don't feel comfortable with a twin turbo engine from Ford. I currently have 4x4 on the ford but never use it. I'm debating if I should get it on the Tacoma or not. What do you guys think?

Get it! Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it! :)

Get 4x4 and then you have it. I mean I hardly use mine but it is nice to know I have it on hand if I ever need to use it.

+1 on the 4wd. my first taco was the prerunner (2wd) double cab. traded it for my 4x4 access cab and couldn't have made a better decision. I'm in Ohio, so the biggest use i'll get out of 4wd is the winter snows, but I occasionally find myself needing it to get through some of the stickier situations in heavy rains.

Damn, you sound exactly like me 1 year ago. I had a '13, FX4 EcoBoost, every option possible, Nav, Sony, MFT, Sunroof, Max Tow pkg, Crew Cab long bed. Bought it to tow a 30' Keystone Cougar, 2 slides about 8k lbs.

We sold the trailer, and I was stuck with a truck I was largely underutilizing. Loved the performance and sound of the turbos of the 3.5 EcoBoost. I got 13-14 mpg in town on my truck, and never better than 17 hwy, but I had 3.73's which come with the Max Tow pkg on the F-150, so that was the cause of my sub par milage.

Op like you, my truck had a few annoyances (nothing related to the EcoBoost) that I always questioned, if it would make it for the long haul. I decided that seeing the truck cost $40k ($52k MSRP) I would cut my losses before the "all new" F-150 was due out, as I knew the re-sale would fall off a cliff when that day came.

I got kind of lucky, took the truck to CarMax first and got a $38k offer to buy it with 12k miles on it. Then drove to Toyota and had them match CarMax. First Toyota dealer laughed and said $33k Lolz. Second Toyota dealer said no prob, and took $1500 off a new Tacoma.

It's defiantly different going from an almost top of the line F-150 with bun burners and coolers in the leather seats, along with 420lb/ft of torque. But in the end I sleep better with Toyota reliability and knowing my re-sale isn't in free fall.

If I were Op I would pass on the TRD/OR, just for the locker. He admits he's not an hard core off-road enthusiast. An SR5, SR or Sport will get him to 99.9% of anywhere he wants to go.

Plus the Sport looks better (and I have a '14 TRD/OR) stock, and cost a little less. Plus I've read here the deal with the locker is referred to as "use it or lose it" meaning if it's something you never use, it may be frozen or inop when you go to use it three years later.

That is why every few thousand miles you lock it and run around a bit. Same for 4X4. And the same reason I will run my Air Conditioner once a week in the winter, it keeps the lubricant distributed.

I wouldn't even consider a 2WD truck, but then I'm in New England and have snow and ice to deal with for a good chunk of the year. Only 2WD Tacomas here are 5-lugs, and there are very very few of even them. I don't think I've ever seen a Prerunner in person.

Wanted a locker, too, but didn't want a short bed, so it wasn't an option. So far haven't had a situation where I really needed it.

In the summer I just kick it into 4WD every time I'm on a dirt road. I figure that's enough to keep it working for when I need it.

I traded an 16 yr old F150 for my 2014 TRD offroad 4x4.
I really love it, the Ford was great, very few problems.
I just didn't like the newer trucks.

Lol I own a pool service company but I have an employee and only use the truck twice a week. I'm contemplating selling the company and focusing 100% on my real estate brokerage. My other job is mortgage and real estate. I've always had a car until getting into a job needing a truck and never have looked back. Even if I sell the company I would like to have a truck because it's helpful if you ever need to pickup a load from Home Depot or whatever else.

I'm looking at getting a crew cab long bed. I don't think I could go access cab coming from this big of a cab.

She will be missed but I can't stand my avg mpg 12-13 for the tank! And I prefer a solid resale value.

First time you get stuck on flat ground in wet grass, you'll wish you had 4x4. Me personally I don't understand why anyone would have a 2 wheel drive truck. That being said, I've never lived some place where there is good weather year round. Go double cab. I recently came from a full size and still feel a little cramped. couldn't imagine less room. but that's just me.
