Well, I never thought of the food & water part year round (good idea!) but I do have 2 large towels & a small pillow that I always keep in the truck.

    Thanks man!

I was looking at this link:

    http://www.romanticasheville.com/frankenstorm2012.htm

I'm sure that Hurricane Sandy was a burden to most people but I would love to be able to see something like the snow that fell in October. When I'm in the area I'll be looking for areas that may have some snow. Even if I have to drive a bit more to a different mountain I'll do it. Most likely I'll PM some of you locals while I'm up there. Maybe you saw some snow & you can point me in the right direction. I don't mind driving a bit more to see it.

My last time to that area was in late March, early April of 2010 & the weather in Pigeon Forge was cool. One of the park guides told me to drive to New Found Gap if I wanted to see some snow. Sure enough, about an hour or more later, we saw snow!

Thank you. That's a bad ass bungee! I've never sen those before.

My wife remembered that I have a (4) pack of bungees from a tent that we have. The bungess are new, no dry rot. I'll be bringing them along. If I had the need for chains that you do up there I would definitely but those.

YEESSS!!! I saw that too! I forgot what website I was on that had the current conditions for this weekend but I saw it. Funny, this weekend was my original date for the trip.

I really hope to see some snow when I go. Seriously, even if I have to drive a bit further. It may seem like no big deal to some but this is a rare chance for me. I see it as driving to South Florida & NOT visiting Fort Lauderdale Beach. HAHA!

    Thank you for the update!
If you or anyone else have any more updates as my date nears from:

    Beech Mountain,
    Mt. Mitchell,
    Newfound Gap,
    Clingmans Dome,
    Asheville,

Or any other city/town/mountain in the area OR a bit further out that has or is forecasted to have snow, I would greatly appreciate an update.

3"-6" For the higher elevations, but that's Ray's forecast and he has a tendency to sensationalize. Either way, I'll take it. Supposed to be breezy and the ground is still warm so I doubt we'll end up with much accumulation.

I know Boone mentioned Rays weather. Just go to booneweather.com which is Ray's website. Its usually the most accurate.

those bungees also offer way less risk of marring your wheels....

with those chains you may consider a strip of duct tape along the spokes that the chain rides over

You just might get your wish on snow in the mountains...this storm might dump 20" in the higher elevations.

    Benefit of the South:

If you lived anywhere there was snow/salt, there's NO way your wheels would still look that good from 2008. My 2011 wheels look worse.

...but that is the only benefit of the south I can come up with.

    hetkind & RevAdam,
This was the weekend that I was supposed to go up there initially :(. I hope that I get a similiar forecast for next Sunday.

Come on Mother nature! Help me out! Throw me a freakin' bone here! It's too long of a drive for me to NOT see some snow. HAHAHA!

Proud Northerner! I respect that. Though I feel that we have MORE THAN ONE benefit but that's cool. HAHAHA! The New England area is too extreme for me. I was born in Jersey City but my family moved to Miami when I was 5 so this is pretty much the area that I am used to.

If it wasn't for my family & my wifes parents who treat me like their son, I would have moved to atleast North Florida or almost anywhere in Georgia YEARS ago. No issues where I live but I like to see the weather vary from time to time, plus the traffic down here is crazy & for anyone buying a house down here NOW..... it's going to cost you atleast one of your extremities.

As for the wheels, they came off a 2010 FJ Cruiser. He's just north of Atlanta, GA so he most likely never saw salt either. I happened to be going to Stone Mountain at the time so I picked them up myself.

    YES & YES! ;)

OK. I admit that when I saw "Fluffernutters" I immedaitely thought it was something funny relating to testicles . I had to Google that one.
