I decided I had to have a Tacoma. It didnt take long to realize that even one slightly used was almost as much as a new one. I found a 2012 with 65k for 25 which was the best deal I have seen yet. Wondering if I should have just got a new one with factory warranty and 0 miles? What's your thoughts on buying new and /or leasing and buying out at end of lease? ?

If I was going to buy one that new I would buy new. That is a lot of miles for a 2012 too.

    ^ That.
Leasing a Tacoma must make sense financially for you personally. Tacoma's will retain their value during the lease without a doubt but, there are significant lease terms that are non negotiable and if you do not know what you are doing than just purchase.
If you plan on driving new every few years, fantastic. You may be required to pay quite a bit down to keep the payments low, based on credit. You are limited to mileage and may pay the price at the end. If there is damage beyond NORMAL wear and tear be prepared to pay. Etc..

There is much to consider and if there is no Tax or personal reason to lease than imo, don't.

I am sure you have found supplies of Tacoma's are limited. Make sure when shopping you are comparing apples to apples as far as model and trim.
Shop your local bank/credit union for interest rates and let your dealer know that you are shopping and they tend to be a bit more competitive.

Please disregard every bit of this post. As pointed out by another member your already leased.

The best of luck and enjoy.

Opening a can of worms asking opinions on buying/leasing, so I'm not going to touch that despite having my own opinions. I'll just keep them to myself.

I would have just bought new. I only say that because that's what I did. In my case, I wanted specific colors and options that my dealer couldn't find used. Dealer gave me a good deal so I went for new.

That's a lot of miles for a 2012. Mine wasn't much more than that OTD new. Go new so you know where the truck has been from mile one. Don't see many situations where lease is better. You walk away from vehicle with nothing to show. Buying out is generally far more money than if you bought in the beginning. Plus, most of the time leasing limits your mileage or has stiff penalties.

I was kind of in this situation recently.

I decided I wanted a new(er) Tacoma, decided on certain things I had to have, namely the 4 cyl, 4WD, 5 spd, access cab.

I debated on getting a new '14 base access cab as spec'd above locally for $24,500; or getting one of several slightly nicer used 2012-2013 SR5s at several dealers in 3 different states.

APR was essentially the same between new and used. Had Toyota offered 0% on the Tacoma like they were doing on some cars and SUVs I probably would have gotten a new one.

Since they didn't, in the end, saving $2500 over the cost of a new one and getting a slightly upgraded truck that was still under warranty and had low miles made more sense for me.

The 2012 I got is the same body style (headlights, grille, etc) as the current 2015 ones, so it looks like it is new. It has 28,000 miles on it, and I drive like 6,000 miles a year, so it will remain at a low mileage for some time.

I personally would not have opted for a used truck it was 2011 or older, had more than about 45,000 miles on it, and was out of warranty, since at that point, I'd rather pay a few thousand more and just get a new unit.

Well, than you should def mention the potential can of worms? and that you are not touching the subject keeping your opinions to yourself. You should only mention most of your opinions on any subject. Good thinking

Wait, did you already buy it? Your profile lists a 2012 and rereading the post makes it sound like you did buy it. If so... kind of a moot point.

I bought my 2012 with 60k around 22k and thought it was a pretty decent deal. at 25k I'd buy new. but the extra $3k in my deal will pay for a lift and some other goodies. do what works for you, don't sweat it and enjoy the ride.

I did buy it already but now having regrets about wondering if I should have bought new. Lease probaby doesnt make sense as I wI'll average 20k miles per yr. I bought it for 25 and it books out for 28. Thinking about trading her in for a new one? Call me crazy. I just can't believe how much these things are. Most of the new ones in my area are close to 32 or up

Do you like the truck you have? If so, keep it. You're going to get your balls beat on by Mr. Dealer if you just bought it and want to trade it in already.

Realistically, a 2015 and the 2012 you have will be the same. Only difference now is mileage; hardly worth taking a loss now for that.

That's an OK price, I guess? Capable truck. I'd keep it and be happy.

Absolutely love it but the miles and just not knowing full history are driving me crazy for as much as I spent. I didn't buy it from a toyota dealer so I was hoping I could trade in towards a new as long as they didn't kill me on trade in

I say keep it and enjoy. Truth is, you'll not only lose out on trade, but taxes and fees as well. I didn't break a sweat on my 12 with 60k miles. the money you'd lose, you now have an opportunity to sink into mods!

You won't get 25k on trade, and if you did you wouldn't likely pay under MSRP on the new truck.

I traded in negative equity and am paying for it for the length of my loan. I would really just live with your decision and not compound it with another bad decision. But if you can afford to take a hit, go for it. Don't be miserable, just don't be foolish either.

    Hindsight is 20/20......

Knowing what you know now yeah if it was me in your situation I would've bought new which is what I ended up doing when looking at used ones. But that was my situation and financially I was able to, but now I have to wait for mod money.

Like what some have said at least you may have more mod money on hand right now and like you said you do like your "new" rig. So go enjoy and try not to dwell on whether or not you should've bought new.

You said it yourself you like the truck. This is going to sound cheesy and cliche' but you got a Tacoma that you enjoy so go enjoy it OP and in the future if you do buy another Tacoma you can take what you experienced from this purchase and apply it to the next.

    Now.....

lets see some pics of your rig brother and let the mods begin if that's what you choose to do.

either way I hope you really do enjoy your Tacoma. GL
