OP's story reminds when I was a kid growing up in LOs Angles in the 70's. We were not aloud to eat any candy until after my parents checked it out. Anything that was homemade (candyapples or home made bags of candy) went out. Any candy that had a wrapper that could be easily opened a resealed (tortis rolls, ect) was next on the hit list. Then, the remaining candy got the squeeze test. That's where they would check for the small air pocket in the candy wrapper. If it passed we got to eat it.
I remember a few kids that from needles and pieces of razor blades in theirs. The local hospitals would x-ray kids candy.
My wife and I also checked our sons candy, luckily no problems.

In the areas where it is thick enough it is a light blue crystal like substance, on the other part it is smeared very thin. The wrapper was cut and glued along the top.
Somebody suggested a manufacturing defect, possible but i cant tell for sure. For piece of mind we tossed all the candy, by 11pm last night Halloween candy was on clearance so for a few dollars we have peace of mind.
Forgot to add, the outside of the wrapper was sticky and it was not sealed air tight

Look at another butterfinger wrapper.. Is there blue glue used to seal it? If so bingo. It's going to be food grade sealant. Harmless. It's most likely no where near as bad as some things most of us have eaten over time.

Looks like the candy was a defect so when the bag should have fit on it it failed to glue shut properly.

Wow that is crazy! I've always heard of checking candy, but always thought it was a silly myth. When the kiddo starts trick or treating for real next year, I will be sure to go through his candy now.

Assuming it's glue here, also. FWIW I've opened candy bars in the past and it's been a bluish color like your picture shows, but also white/clear in some places, so I wonder if it doesn't change color when it's heat sealed, and any remnant sealant not in contact with the heat source would be left colored.

I don't work Nestle so please don't hold me to anything, but just pretty sure I've seen that color in candy wrappers before. Either way, doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Now that they they've traded in their Halloween candy for purchased candy.. what'd they end up with? I think if my parents bought me candy, I think all I'd have ended up getting was Butterfinger and Snickers.

I'm sure the FDA would be extremely pleased to know there's glue on or inside the candy bar.

I still find it a crazy practice that parents send their kids out into t he night to solicit candy from strangers. When I was growing up we stuck to our immediate neighborhood where we knew everyone. It's a sad day when you can't even trust those you live near. Paranoia solution? Stay in and throw a house party.

If it's food grade why would they care. I work in agriculture, have you never thought about the thousands of pulleys, belts, and sprockets your food goes past before it hits your plate? Organic or not food grade grease and lubricant can be found on most foods, especially fresh and plastic packaged foods. Either wash it or eat it, it won't hurt you.

The cops will have a sample tested and if it's negative for poisons/drugs then they'll look into the issue with the manufacturer before going door to door.

The only thing worse then not checking your kids candy, is taking them to McDonald's. I should add Burger King to that list as well, unless you feel horse meat and microwave burgers are well suited for their health.

I would like to think its just the wrapper glue from the factory but that doesnt account for the outside of the wrapper being sticky and the edge of the wrapper being cut. Im sure when the wrappers are glued shut at the factory it dries after a few minutes. Even if everyone says im a paranoid douche noozle ill know my kid is safe
