My blower motor sounds like a kazoo

I just ran a 6 hour round trip down to southern MN today and on my way back I experienced something weird with the blower motor. I was headed west at 70 mph and there was a very strong wind coming from the south, hitting me in the driver's side. Whenever a burst of wind hit that was strong enough to shove the truck a bit I would get a quick, loud kazoo-like sound from the glove box area. It really surprised me at first because it was so loud and weird. I experimented a little and I could get it to happen more often and louder if I turned the fan to high. I could eliminate it totally if I closed the re-circ.

Any chance the wind was coming in just right that it was forcing the blower motor to go faster than it wanted to? Like I said, it was linked to the strong blasts of wind from the side and definitely coming from the blower motor. It sounded exactly like those party favors that you blow into and they roll out and then curl back up.

I will check it in the morning. Didn't sound like debris though. Sounded more like a belt being forced too fast on a pulley or like my old Suzuki motorcycle would sound when when I would over rev it and smoke the clutch. Very kazoo like with each burst of wind.

I could be wrong, but its a free check and if its a fix that would be great.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

blower belts slip ,how old is yours? how long on car? just might need tightening. might have not been tightened correctly if new or close to new.

kazoo like noise actually might be your windshield gasket. there was a TSB on these as well. mine makes a kazoo-like noise in real bad crosswinds (which is very often here). haven't taken the time to fix it myself since out of warranty.

and if it really is your blower motor, it is a very easy item to replace if you are out of warranty. did mine in about 20 minutes. hardest part was trying to get the damn connector off.

That is hilarious. I actually searched for windshield and blower motor noise before posting but I never thought to use "kazoo" in the search terms...and there it is. My exact problem: 70+ mph and a hard crosswind from the driver's side.

I did get some video of it with my cell phone. I will bring it up when I go in for my first 5000 mile free oil change. See what they say.

Mine did that too but it was because the cabin air filter was full and the motor pulled it down into the fan. I took the glove box out, took the filter out, tossed it in the back of the truck and I've never looked back!
