Yo. I just recently got back into a taco also. My first one was a 4x4. I opted for the prerunner this time because it was cheaper, and more of them are available. I am 95% on road so I wasn't too worried about it; however, I wish that I did at least get the offroad for a LITTLE more capability for the few times I do go offroad.

Removed factory bed cover and installed UnderCover Elite. Added LOCKERDOWN console safe.
Retired dealer and I bought a 4X4 with no reason to have it except if i ever needed it i would have it PLUS it will sell so much faster and for plus the price paid for the 4X4. It makes a very good used seller even better.

I'm going to go against the grain and say... keep the Ford. The amount of $$$ you'll lose now can buy a whole boatload of gas. Buying a new vehicle simply for the increase in mpg's is a waste and in truth doesn't give you the return on investment that you think it will. The only time you should look at the mpg upgrade is when you need a new vehicle, not wanting one.

Typically on Camry's and Corrola's, rarely on Tundra. But I've never seen a campaign on Tacoma's. They basically sell themselves, so if you were a manufacture, why waste or give free money away when you don't have to.

I know it feels weird, trust me I've had my share of Fords & Chevy's, where there is $8-$10k of money sitting on the hood before you even start negotiating. But remember in 3 years those trucks are worth 1/2.

With a Tacoma, you are not going to get much off compared to domestics or other vehicles. But you will get your money back, and likely be in an equity position when you go to sell it down the road.

I have 2x4 and got stuck in some grass after heavy rains, ground was soft with slight slope and my bud with 4x4 got me out. Right there and then I wished I had 4x4.

With that said, 90% of time I stay on paved rode and get stuck once in blue moon. I paid $17K+tax for brand new single cab 2x4. 4x4 option was $5K more! Maybe I was going to get it for 4K after some negotiations but that's not a fact. So $5K more is equal to 30 percent more!!! from price of the truck. For example it adds $115 to monthly payment or you have to put down more money.

From this post alone, a 4wd access cab sounds like the winner. You can always go back and forth and have some fun with the 4x4 when you are bored on the weekend.

I'd keep a CTS as a dd and have an access cab to complement it if I was you

Search this forum for the words "Wish I bought 2wd". I've never heard anyone say that, ever. I had a 2wd s10 once (first truck) and countless times I would have given anything for it to be 4wd.

3 entries on Google and 2 are the same guy unhappy with his GMC HD. The other is a guy talking about a tractor.

    +1 on buying a Tacoma
+1 on agreeing with resale value
    +1 on getting the 4x4
+ 1 million on ditching the Ford

You selling mortages or selling houses? The latter typ requires a luxury vehicle to show you can handle the money. Maybe Lexus GX460?

Humm, I beg to differ. I have purchased three homes in the last decade. Upon each instance I never once saw the persons car handling the loan or financing (but the office typically had a nice oak desk).

As far as realtors go, my last Realtor, who is in the top 2% in our area, which is a fairly affluent zip code drove a '12-'13 Honda Oddsey, the guy we used when we purchased our last investment property drove an '05-'06ish Acura TL. Never once gave any thought to what kind of car or truck they drove, as each time they were a referal from a reputable source.

Point is, I never understood why people get so wrapped up with thinking they need a specific vehicle for a job. If I were op, I wouldn't hesitate to use an F-150 or a Tacoma no matter if I were selling homes or mortgages.

^That's different from what I've seen in my city, where a luxury brand is considered a business necessity for realtors handling the million-dollar homes.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
And that would be the Rambler with the two speed auto and the flathead six engine? IIRC the Ramblers of that era uses skinny 15" tires and rims that would also fit Volvos of that period. The first motor I ever helped changed was that flathead six...

I put on two sets of snow tires this weekend, blizzaks on the WRX, studded snows on the taco, with a second set of studded snows for the Wrangler Sahara and set of duratracs with #16 studs in the 285/75-17 size for a buddies lifted Rubicon.

    Tires DO matter...

Buy the truck you need Grasshopper. I like the 4WD because I live in the mountains, and it comes in mighty handy in the winter when I can lock it at 45 on the fly. If your in the flatlands think how often you'll really need it.
