I just wanted to know what you guys think. I got approved for the TSB to get done but the service manager said the ride would noticeably be more stiffer and he had a guy complain about it. He is waiting on me so that he can order the parts. I told him I would call him back today. I don't do any offroading and i drive mostly street. In your guy's opinion, should I do it or not? Is the ride really noticeable? If i'm forgetting anything else please give me your opinion. I have a 09 DC SB Sport 4x2 if that helps. I only have 1200 miles on my truck. Thanks in advance. Also is there anything else I should take it in for so they can get everything done all at once? Also, would i need to update the shocks in the front since the rear is slightly raised?

I noticed my ride was softer. My Stock leaf pack was shot, and the ride was harsh. After the TSB, my ride was much more compliant.

    Hey, maxboostcore
I have read on hear that the majority of the guys on here like the TSB!!
I can't answer anything about it personally (have not done the TSB yet):p. BUT I will, I only have 25245 miles on my truck. I already took it in to see if they would do it and had no problems they said, "just bring it in when ready":bananadance::yay: So I just need to schedule some time away from work. Check out the search Forum under TSB and read what everyone else has to say about it!!:)

I thought the ride was a little stiffer, but I didn't mind at all (it is a truck, after all). After a week or so, I must of gotten used to it because I didn't notice anymore.

On one hand I'd say do it, especially since it sounds like you're one of the few that hasn't had to jump through hoops to get it done. However, ultimately it is up to you, and how you intend on using your truck.

BTW, don't think that the service manager had some inside info and was doing you a favor with the warning about the ride... it states right on the tsb that customers should be warned (probably a last effort by Toyota to get out of doing the work, imo).

I would get it done, I feel that drives smoother and handles bumps better, etc. Of course maybe it is just in my head but I also feel better about placing more weight in the bed when hauling, etc.

I just feel better knowing that it is done, some will argue otherwise but it will be up to you in the end.

Got my TSB done on my '08 about 3-4 weeks ago. It's been a lot smoother of a ride for me since having it done, and I haven't even loaded it down with anything yet post TSB. Get it done, I doubt you'll regret it.

    Too few to list.
What dealership in SoCal? I think they made that story up about someone complaining about it. I've heard that before too. In my experience, it is just a little bit stiffer but not much more. Doesn't wobble as much.

    DO IT!!!
it is a truck not a car. my ride improved! If you are never going to haul anything, leave it alone. If you plan on ever hauling anything, you better do it.

Has anyone had any luck with the local Chicagoland Toyota dealerships? I got shot down at Naperville Toyota (great bunch of F'm a-holes over there).

    Thanks,

I'm going to tomorrow AM. 8:30. Talked to the SM and he told me pretty much the same thing. If I didn;t haul anything, my ride would be stiffer. No problem, I told him. Now, I am not sure if I am getting it done tomorrow or just going in only to make another appt. God I hope not. On the other hand, they are going to look at my drivers side window. Rattles like a mother... Passenger is no where near as bad. Let you guys know.

I called Toyota about ours and the said yes and gave me a ref. number. Went to the dealer, they wanted info off of the truck so they could order the springs. Then the service director calls and says no they will not do it because its a 2009. I told him thats odd I gave you the ref. number and Toyota says yes. He calls back a few days later and say they need to see the truck to look at the bump stops. Not sure whats up now. Have not had a chance to get in there yet.

I had the exact same concerns and I definitely say do it.

I picked mine up yesterday and did a good amount of driving. It rides like a truck now, like everyone else says. The suspension doesn't bounce you up and down when you hit a bump anymore. If you're in it for the long run, the 4 leaf pack combined with the bilsteins will last much longer down the road.

Not to mention, the service guy showed me the slip he was submitting to toyota, and the whole job costs $2,189.00. So consider it an oppurtunity for a nice free upgrade.

Alright, you guys have convinced me to go ahead and do it. You guys win :D Thank you everyone for your advice :). The thing that got me most was this from BMBIG

I picked mine up yesterday and did a good amount of driving. It rides like a truck now, like everyone else says. The suspension doesn't bounce you up and down when you hit a bump anymore. If you're in it for the long run, the 4 leaf pack combined with the bilsteins will last much longer down the road.

i tested it out on speed bumps and i felt myself bounce up. Even though I don't do any hauling, I would like to keep my truck for the long run and would like to haul some new toys when I can afford it.

I talked to the service manager and he said he would go ahead and order the springs once we hang up :) and he also said he would work on the retainer clips for me.

The ride is notably stiffer, but not bad. You are trading mall-crawler smoothness for the ability to actually haul something without endangering yourself. I'd say the new springs take it up to match the level you'd see in an F-250 SD. Nothing to complain about, just not Camry smooth anymore.

Of course, when you get 300+ lbs back there, it's back to Camryland! :D

i got the infamous yellow sticker as well and it says it reduces the weight capacity by 4 pounds. i wonder if i'll even notice anything. haven't done the TSB yet so there is still time to cancel if i shall but right now it seems like it's all go. if i'm going to get the upgraded springs i hope it's not just for 4 pound difference.

Leaf spring TSB and load modification sticker Recall are two totally different things and are not related at all.

I have to disagree I don't think the ride is harsher @ all. But right after I had it done I loaded the bed with fire wood and hooked up my 21ft travel trailer so mine are well broke in. I think it handles alot better in corners now w/o anything in the bed. All I need now is a CAI,Catback, headers, pipebomb,MAF,and a set of 5100's Damn this shit is addictive!

alright. i loaded the bed up with 910 pounds and it only went down 2 inches. i wonder if my 09 will be alright. 910 pounds and only a 2 inch drop was pretty impressive compared to what others were saying that was happening to their trucks.
