I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
You would have to brace the hell out of it but it would work. One thing your are not going to want to start welding on .060 wall tube you need get some torch time and develop a technique before trying thin wall tubing. Stick to .120 wall and above wile your just starting you will waste a lot of tube trying to learn to weld on thin wall.

I think its better to start by watching hours of videos and reading books to learn what needs to be done before ever picking up a torch. I would start by watching welding tips and tricks all of the mig welding videos.

God, yes! Having all these videos at your disposal with really help with the speed of becoming a proficient welder. Something I did not have luxury of.

I had to whip this out last week. Buddy of mine wanted a second boat trailer to leave downstream.

McKenzie drift boat trailer. We like to leave a second truck and trailer downstream so we can just drift down to the next boat launch, load up and get gone. Saves a bunch of running around after a day of trout fishing.

Dude, whats your fucking problem? I come to this thread to learn and offer suggestions. Are you wanting to learn or just waste my fucking time by posting these useless comments. Every time someone post to this thread, I get a notification to my phone. Reading yours and others comments takes a lot of time that I don't really have. Please don't force me to unsubscribe from this thread.

I'm all for a bit of levity, but take it down a notch. Please.

    Sincerely

Nahhh.. Don't listen to these guys, they're all idiots.

A really good starter project is a trailer like KO's. The tongue is a great place to make sure that you've got your heat correct on your machine. Best if you're outside on a windy day so the fumes don't get to you.

Those McKenzie boats are gorgeous. Kicking around the idea of building another skiff - built an 18 foot flat bottom when I was 17, it's still back in Rhode Island.

Have contemplated trying an aluminum build, but as all things that are worth doing, it would take a lot of time.

Please do it! Have you seen what those AL, MDB's are selling for? There is no way there is 5k in materials in those boats.

You should see the rigs in Kodiak..

Beautiful craftsmanship, but the prices are insane. Emerson Boatworks is in the island - they've pumped out a few 26' landing crafts w/250s for around $125k!

Got to drive one of these this summer..

500 horse John Deere diesel, Traktor jet drive. It was awesome.

Okay then stop waisting our time and this thread. Make sure you post your welds so we can tell others how not to start welding.

Your first welding project should be a long travel front suspension kit. Then a bumper. Then roll cage. Race ready in one weekend. Use that .060" wall tube to save money and weight so you can fly higher though.

Learned something new today. Strong magnets can fubar your welds. Fortunately I'm just talking things up at the moment though. The magnet on the right is rated at 165 lbs and fucked every tack that it was next too. It was like the gun was spitting weld out and not binding to the base metal.

The one on the left is only 90lbs and didn't affect the tacks.

Oh well, it's only a couple of tacks. I've learned to keep those magnets in the fixture away from the welds.

I've had that happen before also; then I looked at the floor and all of the metal dust around my leads.. Creates a nice visual of the electrical fields that are flying around.

Lots of EMI and RFI from DC, especially HF start.

The wire is ferrous so the magnet repelled it.

Here is my bumber for the Tundra as well as some thick wall tube. Sorry, can't remember what the thickness is.
