    The dealer said it was so popular that If I backed out of the deal they could sell the truck that same day.

    That's my thinking........I can understand how the previous poster would have a biased opinion as it sounds like he works for a dealer or is a salesman himself.

    BlackOut...thanks for the input and the other side of the coin!

    I'm not lying...I'm just not saying how much I want to put down up front! And the fact that you are getting so upset about it tells me that I have the right idea! If a dealer asks me How much I'm going to be putting down...I'll simply tell him we will get to that after we decide on final price and interest rate.

    But there are a lot of arguments that can be made both ways....for instance why doesn't a dealer just tell me exactly how much they have into a car? Withholding this info....is this lying?....I could go on and on about doc fees and delivery fees etc etc...or how they want $175 to change plugs....I'm sure YOU are a great guy and a good salesman and employee.....but, ......bottom line is I have MY best interest at heart during this transaction and I could give two nips about how much money YOU make on the transactions. Please don't take it personal. I want to get what im looking for at THE BEST POSSIBLE RATE........and was just asking people's opinions of this approach...I do really appreciate your input though.

    Bingo. If everyone is being on the table about the deal, then the dealer should just tell you his true cost of the vehicle and say "I will sell it for X% profit".

    Agree on the have fun part, just be educated about it (it sounds like he is).

    I don't nogotiate on the price of most items but, I do nogotiate on a most higher dollar items. I've had good luck on TVs, cameras, furniture, appliences ect....

    OP, if you're a member of Costco, you can build the exact 4Runner you want, and have the price set by Costco, usually $2000-$3000 off list, no negotiations.

    I just completed my purchase, picked up my 2015 on Halloween day. Contact several dealers in your area, ask for their best price on the exact model you want including the options you want. Factory installed options do not include dealer labor charges, so that's well worth the wait. Those dealers you contact should be informed that you are serious and are price shopping for a factory ordered car.

    This will separate the wheat from the chaff, and you can go from there. Deal directly with a sales manager if you can, and there's nothing like locking in a price by email before placing your deposit. Use a cash rewards credit card if you have one, up to the max of $3000 for the deposit. If the deal then falls through for whatever reason, your refund is garanteed by your credit card company.

    I was able to complete all business by email, up to the point of signing the papers, which I did on the day I picked up my car. On that day, you only have to get past the Finance Officer ~AKA~ the "Upsell Officer". It is his job to sell the stuff you don't want to buy, so stick to your original plan and you'll do well.

    Tacomas don't stay on the lot very long, dealers know they can ask what the going price is in a region and get it. You may get a great deal if the truck is on the lot, but in my case I had to order and I paid the going rate for my region.

    well when I went thru the process of getting my 14 4Runner I documented the process over at T4R.org via this thread starting at this post.


    no money down and verbal order agreement with the new car GM. but then again I have a unique situation with my GM as we have bought 12+ Toyota's from them over the last 25 years.

    even let me us his Toyota allocation system to pick out color and options.

    again this is atypical due to having bought so many Toyotas from them over the year.
