Help with leaf pack installation.

    I've done several searches for the information and I can't find what I'm looking for exactly. I have a 96 Tacoma SX 4x4 and I need a step by step "how-to" with pictures, if possible, on installing the new leaf packs. I've never done this before so I'm looking for information that is very detailed. I'm not going to do the installation until I get my new shocks which should be in by the end of the month. I'm trying to get as much information as I can to get an idea of what I need to do. Thanks for your help.

    This is out of the FSM. I know it says 2003 but it is the same as you 96.

    You are going to want to spray all of the hardware (nuts/bolts) with PB Blaster when you get close to the install date. I would suggest sprasying them 3-4 times a day.

    Being a 96, I would spray the bolts now. The hardest part that you are going to have will likely be bolts and nuts that do not want to move. Search here and over a ttora, there are a few write ups around that will help you out.

    rent an impact if you dont have one the bolts are nasty to get off

    What type of ride can I expect with the new leaf packs and shocks? Hard or soft or somewhere in between?

    That all depends on what shocks you purchased but you can expect it to be stiffer in the begining.

    I've got the Wheeler 5 leaf packs and I've ordered the Bilstein 5100's. How long is the break-in period for new shocks and springs? I guess I can get the PB Blaster at any auto parts store?

    Yes to the PB blaster and I think you can even get it a Walmart. It may take a couple of months but if you haul a few heavy loads, that will help to loosen them up sooner.

    What kind of shocks did you get?
    I just replaced mine front and back & they just SUX! I bought the best O'Rileys autoparts has but its just like I didnt do anything. I keep a heavy topper on the back so that might be part of it. I may just need heavier duty shocks. The truck really leans when I go around a curve or make a turn. Any suggestions anyone?

    He purchased Billy 5100's. I have come to find that autoparts stores "best" tend to be made by the cheepest bidder. If you want to get a better ride that has been proven by hundreds of people and can be proven, I would suggest the Billy's or OME's. (Old Man Emu)

    Yes you should be fine. They are for 0-3" of lift.
