I paid around $1200. First week I had the truck, I dented the tailgate. I pushed most of it out myself (one advantage to the weak design), which left a couple dime-sized dents. I got it covered under the warranty. I figure that alone paid for a third of it.

    Do dents and scratches count?
Wow I got screwed on my warranty. 8years 100k for $1500. Oh well. Got a decent deal on the truck and gave it back on the warranty. Dealer always wins somehow.

You know, If they actually charged anywhere near the prices we are seeing that smart buyers are leveraging, they probably would get flooded with extended warranties and make up more than the difference. And make even more $$ by getting a huge increase in the insurance base.

I'm not sure if posting is really doing damage, as they would not sell it at these prices if the Corp (not dealer/salesman) was losing money. After forking out over 20K for my new vehicle, a $1.5K (and MORE) extended warranty is a LOT of money to me. However if they said $800 I would have jumped.

Good for you and an attaboy for the Dealer (post his name and give him credit).

One wheel bearing would pay for mine !! - so I consider the pricecheap!

Toby advertises on the web independently; he also put his own message on other toyota threads. He'd open and above board.
A genuine Toyota VSP involves paperwork sent to Toyota Financial by the warranty seller, and acceptance by them. You get your actual warranty book direct from Toyota. If TF wanted to stop this, they would; but obviously not!!! This is not a hidden process.

    Dumb question here:

With these extended warranties from Toyota you guys are talking about. Are they only if you buy new from a Toyota dealership? Can you go in the dealership with a 2010 with 25,000 miles and buy an extended warranty?

I bought through Toby and got 7yr125k for $1250 for my 15 4x4 DCLB. Just did it, still waiting for my official toyota paperwork.

Are these for brand new or can you also get one if you have 25000 miles?

The short answer is yes ... But...

There is a specific time /mileage you have to buy the extended warranty. I "Think" it's before the factory warranty expires. My Dealer said (not that it's true) that the longer you wait the more it cost ??? May be BS.

There are numerous companies that sell warranties for a vehicle at anytime in the life cycle of the vehicle - but the costs will be reflective of the age of the vehicle.

I'd go to the Toyota web sites listed here and look at the specs and different coverage packages - and see if your vehicle is still eligible. Check the prices, shop around, get a quote over the Web, Check your dealer LAST to see if they match the lowest quote.

Also check the web for non Toyota warranties. SOME are from well known USA wide insurance backers. Also check to see if the dealer can just fix the vehicle with the selected warranty with just minimal paper work/phone call - or if it requires all sort of BS /time to get the repair approved before repairs ... Most do, but the goods ones just take a phone call ...

Good luck and let us know what you find ...

warranty has to be purchased within 3/36k warranty for new purchase. There is NO increase in price (by toyota) as you approach 3/36. The main advantage to buying it at new purchase is the benefit of additional services (e.g. hotel costs coverage if away from home) and being able to finance it at vehicle purchase.
If buying used, has to be within 3 years and there is some mileage that cannot be exceeded that you'd have to check on (believe it's 30,000 miles)
I usually buy close to the 3 year mark to be sure I'll keep the vehicle.
Also, Toby does a very good deal and will match a price if you want to haggle, OR if buying new you can take his quote to the finance manager and make him get close-FM's don't like this but if they can get some money in their pocket, it's better than nothing...

I will check around for Ohio Toyota dealership's. I am at 25,000 miles for a 2010. So I am not sure I can get it. I guess I am past the 3/36000

I have a 2010 Pre-Runner with 25,000 miles. I just talked to the dealership and they said they would do the 5 year and 60,000 platinum extended for $1100.00. What do you guys think, should I do it? I guess they are making an exception because I am over the 3/36000 in years

Yeah your out of the manufacture warranty period, but seems high to me..Is that an additional 5yrs 60k? Never have bought a extended warranty like in your case. I did the 7yr/75k platinum for $450.00 when I bought my truck last week ..

They wanted $2200 but I talked him down a thousand in no time. It is pricey but but really did not think they would do it at all seeing I am a year over in warranty. I guess I am so close they made an exception. You think I should try some other dealers?

    Yes an additional 5/60,000

Be sure what you're getting; In the Toyota warranty process, the dealer must send the paperwork to toyota financial, and if there are service records in 2014, they'd stand out on a '10, unless you bought it new in a later year, with 3/36 starting at purchase date. If the date of in-service for the vehicle per the VIN is over 3 years they'd likely reject.
Make absolutely certain that 1. you want to pay $1100 for a single additional warranty year, and 2. It should be a Toyota warranty, where you receive the actual warranty booklet directly from Toyota Financial. In all warranty claims the dealer must call TF directly to get authorization to fix/be reimbursed, and to make sure the warranty hasn't been cancelled/refunded, etc.
I'd be cautious, in case they're trying to sell you an after market warranty product.....not recommended.

I will definitely check on all that. Thanks for the info. The best I could find was $900 for 7/100,000 and they know its a 2010, is it mostly the miles they look at? Also if I get this now is that 7/100,000 from now or from brand new?

    from new.

only 3rd party can do from when you buy it unless its a Toyota CPO warranty.

Damn so that would be $450 a year with just 2
years left. Ouch, doesn't seem like a good idea.
