    We do have pretty much the most amazing vehicle in the world. I bought it for a reason; I stand by that logic. But again, that was 10 years ago.

    Plenty. In fact, if you're looking at outright numbers, there's way more Silverados on the road past 100k than Tacomas. But I'm at least smart enough to know that's not a fair fight based on production numbers alone.

    This is what we call being a "fanboy". Sure the Tacoma is an incredible machine. But blindly stating it's better than something else where not only do you not have the facts, but the facts simply DON'T EXIST YET....is stupid. No other way to put it. You are clearly biased (shit, I am too) and can't seem to gain a proper perspective here.

    I don't recall deeming this truck savior of the midsize truck market but I think it looks at least reasonably solid. If it's one thing Chevy can do well, it's trucks. Let's not forget how many recalls Toyota has issued in the past couple years too....

    I know prices rise.
    But 50+k for a worktruck is hard to swallow when I bought my first three homes for under that.
    Heck my first 2 combined were under 50k.

    Especially when I haul manure in it. Take the trash, go scrapping, git wood.

    I agree as well. I'm waiting to pass final judgement till I see either in person though. I'm assuming the GMC will command a price premium though. I haven't looked at the prices though.

    But then GM would have to revise the MPG numbers downward by, oh, 5 or so.

    :rofl: That is one of the funniest things I have heard on the forums, oh you have me laughing. So aside from the most important part of the truck, the back bone and base of the whole thing you are ok with that part taking a dump and failing you? The most expensive replacement part of the vehicle? Wow, that is like being ok with a certain brand of boat if the hull fails. Or a certain type of plane that you love but are ok if the fuelselage breaks in half. :confused: Guess you can't fix brand blindness.

    For what it is worth, we have mostly only had GM trucks, suv's and vans for the past 20+ years, reason being is not one of them has had a mechanical failure. Alternator here, window motor there but major mechanical never regardless of how much weight we towed, hauled or miles put on it. Say what you want about GM and their (this is just back in the old days) poor interior quality and their recalls (Toyota has too) but they are known for having some of the most reliable engine/drivetrain combos out there. Why else are a large portion of boat engines GM? Ever see how an LS motor goes in anything as a fix for more performance? I will take a rattle over a engine failure any day. Give me a cheaper looking dash over a transmission grenading.

    I am heavily leaning towards a new Colorado in a couple years, hope Toyota has a new Tacoma to compare it to I can look at as well. Best one gets my business. I do really like this forum though, tons of info and think I will continue hang around and learn. But sorry that line just had me cracking up.

    The average new vehicle costs 7.3 months average pay, and that hasn't changed much over the years. The numbers are shocking, but consider that we make a hell of a lot more money than we did back in the eighties. http://blog.caranddriver.com/are-ca...-only-feel-that-way-our-infographic-explains/

    I noticed that too. The way I look at it though, is the newer engine makes more power and torque while still delivering the same fuel economy in a truck that's 4500lbs heavier. That's pretty good.

    I disagree. The 3500's and such have been ruined, but small diesels are still getting great mileage.

    Tdi jetta - 40+mpg
    Tdi Passat - 40+mpg
    Tdi touareg - 25+mpg 5000pound awd suv
    Mercedez GLK- 33mpg

    The choices are out there, unfortunately Germany seems to be the only ones embracing diesels potential.

    Which is weird when you think that Cummins is an American company that could really do well in the small diesel market.

    The better coast

    I know the small diesel conversation is for trucks, but since you mentioned cars, gas, non hybrid, engines are getting more of less the same gas mileage as the diesel ones. The price of diesel is consistently higher than 91 oct (at least in my area) and seems like if you're going for mpg, you might as well stick with gas. :notsure:

    Looks like at least for the Jetta, that isn't true. I get that there are other cars that get better mileage, but they are lighter and would benefit even more from a diesel. My wife's 450hp duramax gets much better mileage than my Tacoma. It's true that diesel is more expensive. In my town gas is at $3.37 and diesel is $3.63. It only takes a mgp or two to make up the difference in price...plus diesels eat less parts over the long haul, making total cost of ownership reduced.

    All these are as per fuelly

    Ive listed the German TDI vs the equal vehicle from Toyota. The pricing is a lot closer than you would imagine.

    examples: (pricing in Canadian).
    Touareg TDI = $55,000 / 4Runner Limited = $51,000.
    Jetta TDI = $23,000 / Toyota Camry Hybrid = $28,000/ Toyota Prius = $26,000
    Merc GLK = $47,000 / Rav4 Limited = $38,000

    Avg. Golf TDi = 42mpg
    Avg. Jetta TDi = 40mpg.
    Avg. Passat TDi = 41 mpg.
    Avg. Touareg TDI = 25mpg
    Avg. VW Amarok pickup = 25mpg
    Avg. Merc GLK = 33mpg

    Camry Hybrid = 39mpg
    Prius = 50mpg
    rav4 = 25mpg
    4Runner = 18.5mpg
    Corolla = 34mpg

    No shortage of technical expertise in any of those guys.
    Seriously we should zipping around on far more diesels.

    I don't think CAT or DD are going to get into the small diesel market. Lots of R&D involved in developing a smaller motor, it's not just a simple process of shrinking everything down a bit. While the concept is the same I've heard many a horror story about heavy duty mechanics trying to fix Jetta engines in the shop and failing miserably because they simply aren't the same thing.

    Cummins already appears to have deals in the works with Toyota (Tundra) and Nissan (Titan) but, just like with the gas jobs, the odds we would see a similar sized motor in our Taco's is probably very small. There are motors coming over that already exist, Ford recently brought over there small diesel for there work vans (185 HP and 350 ft*lbs torque), and I expect the only way we will see more diesels in the near future is when other automotive companies do the same thing. That Ford small diesel is being used in place of a 3.7 L gas job that has remarkably similar numbers to our 1GF-RE engines.

    I don't think that's confirmed to be a production truck. They did test a cummins diesel in the Frontier and Nissan put that in the papers, but at no point did they say it's the engine for there next Frontier if I remember correctly.
