Wicked! I've been to waiparous a few times for camping in the summer! Stoked to get get out there and hit the trails! Any must have things when out there? Looks forward to it. I'll just take the days off work when these happen. Hopefully the truck will have a more Km in her.

Sucks to hear about CT4WD, I was pumped to meet up with the group since I just moved the Turner Valley about a month ago. Buddy of mine pointed this thread out, though, so I felt compelled to register and make a post.

Still new to 4x4'ing in general, only real experience was sharing a beat up farmer's field with a bunch of random trucks and atvs from time to time.

So my buddy up north and myself would love to jump in on any planned trips, assuming I have proper equipment for them, of course!

EDIT: Also, anyone know how long it takes to get the Frame checked out for the recall? Nearest dealerships to me is either Canyon Meadows or High River.

Pretty much everyone who was on CT is on here so I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, this way you can actually just go and wheel instead of registering, signing up for courses; getting more courses, then signing up for the trail runs...

Well I wouldn't quite push it that far. Tons of users aren't on TW but it does seem to be the reason MORE of CT people are heading over here, myself included.

You also always had the freedom to run your own "un-official" runs over on CT, so this is nothing different. I also am sad more than anything that the classes are gone. There was a huge amount of value in having everyone you wheeled with having at least a basic level of understanding on the Tread Lightly principles, basic recovery/driving techniques, and the general "to-do/not-to-do's". I guess the responsibility is just up to us now to educate new users appropriately in order to keep our trails open in the future. Not trying to start a pissing match by any means, just stating my opinion.

They could have done that while ct existed. Ct existed to hold the hands of people & be tour guides.

I'm sad about the courses, but they sucked for guys who were close enough to go wheeling for a day trip but too far to afford to take the work off to go on 2-3 80 dollar classes/trips in order to go on the one run. It's all jeeps down here where I live and there club is in a lot of turmoil, all I wanted to do is go on some scenic looking trails without having to worry about the perils of always going solo. Hopefully one day.

Yah I hear ya. I lived in Lethbridge for the past 7 years and I started wheeling around the time I moved to Lethbridge. I made a point of going to the courses early on just taking them one at a time. Met some awesome people and learnt a good foundation of skills to build apon, until we had a solid group to head out on our own adventures with. That being said, the "sport" is growing like mad and I look forward to the day when we can get something organized again. Maybe we can do a TW meet up in the next month or so and get everyone together.

It's more so that with CT closed there's more now. A lot won't come here cause they're off on the Landcruiser forums or the like, however knowing who's who and a simple search (Not to mention just having people's phone numbers) to get in touch with them and say, hey, I'm setting up a trail run on such and such date isn't super difficult. Part of it is that now when people google Calgary toyota off roading this will pop up instead of CT. And no pissing match. One of the nice things about here versus CT is discussions can happen and not have the thread get locked down because someone is butthurt. And no fucking censorship.
To be honest the responsibility has always been on us to educate and tread lightly. Nothing has changed, there's just no "Sponsorship" attached to it now.

    And just because...

    #innercircle :D:crapstorm:

True but as mentioned, with CT shut down, when people search for Calgary 4x4 this will popup. I can see benefits to both sides. Like you I was brought up with 4x4ing. Are there tricks and tips I can still learn? Of course. Am I confident in my abilites? Absolutely. However, I don't need to be shelling out a couple hundred dollars to learn what I already know.

But what do I know, I'm the "Great internet asshole".

What would you know about the inner circle.....:D

And the inner circle was a name made up by disgruntled people who weren't invited on runs with people they weren't friends with.

I don't go hang out with people I'm not friends with, especially offroad, when I'm my confident in their abilities.

True story. At least about what I know about the inner circle. :p

The inner circle name was some BS that whom ever decided to label a group of friends. That of which I guess I was a member. I feel no need to apologize to anyone for not sending a private invite to go out and wheel with myself and my friends. These people that labelled the inner circle might as well be called just that themselves. Going on runs in their groups of friends and not posting un-official runs for the southern alberta community to join in on. I enjoyed going on official runs, sometimes it turned into a lot of work leading the groups but that was what also made the fun happen. When I wasnt doing Official trail runs and leading them and wanted to wheel with my friends then I would do just that. The inner circle to me seems like something that was dreamed up to stir the pot of shit that seemed to get stirred too often on CT4WD.

^ I love how, from the sounds of the final post on CT4WD, CT4WD tried to be a club with no exclusions. Which to be honest is an oxymoron lol.

When a club has no exclusions, members make up exclusions themselves in my experience. Then the club comes apart because people make up there own Club within a Club, which is always a major buzzkill. There is no such thing as a club where everyone plays nicely unless someone is regularly pruning people who can't play nicely with others regularly, which can't really be a priority for a club that preaches absolute openness for membership.

Just my 2 cents. Like I said I just wish I knew some Toyota drivers around Lethbridge who actually wanted to go do something fun together around here. I had just met a few online on CT4WD when they shut it down :(.

Pretty much. I wasn't a huge part of the forum or club. (More tw) however from what I was privy to was that because the group of friends was so close it came across as cliquey and intimidating. That being said that's obviously a "their problem" not a you problem. Only thing I can think of is if got guys cane across as standoffish?

The biggest issue was when threads would close randomly but only after they've had their final say.

I always hosted "un-official" runs.....in the beginning of my CT4WD time...this is also how I met some really good friends. I actually never did an official run for some time. Once I became more involved doing trail runs all the time and doing different events for the Association I did not continue to host un-official runs because every moment away from work I was having to do something with the CT in some way. Same probably goes for a lot of the trail leaders. I finally had to start limiting my amount of time I could spend with CT because I needed to take care of work more, and balancing that with my private life. I always encouraged others to setup un-official runs aside from the Officials so people would get out more with others.
Anyhow I am thankful for what Ct brought to the community and any of the education I took from it. I am most thankful for the friends and acquaintance I have from being a part of CT. There isn't too many modified Toyotas in town that I don't recognize or know who the driver is.
Being "standoffish" is as far from being accurate to describe the team members.
We always made it a purpose to visit with members outside our friends group at events. Peoples perceptions are what they are......I honestly feel people bitched to bitch. Trolled to troll. Saw it a lot. There would be bitching about not doing certain types of runs....we held runs to accommodate these people and they didn't show at all.
At least TW isnt going anywhere.

As I said. Other peoples perceptions and feelings. CT definitely helped to meet new friends and enhance the public's perception of 4x4ing. It just had some niggling problems it could never shake. Whether from the club itself or from outside. (Or more likely a combination of both.)

At the very least I can text Jamie pictures of dog poop now.

Can't remember if I've "said hi" in this thread or not?..

    Hi.

I'd be interested in heading out on some trails with some people on here.
I lurked the CT forums, and have met some of you guys in person.
I'm not really one for "car clubs". Been there, done that. The CT club is a great example of how things can go over time.

Anyway, if anyone is planning to head out on a run one of these days, I'd fully be interested in tagging along (that is, IF i'm cool enough).:eek:
