Homebrew bumpers and sliders, 5100s & Eibachs up front and mutt leaf pack out back, 285s & Wheelers type B, sway bar deleted. Wife's ride: 01 4Runner 4wd sport. Stock with exception of TRD taco coils, and shift kit.
1st gen for me for 2 reasons.

    1. it's paid for.
    2. I finally learned how to work on something that doesn't have 4 manual drum brakes and a carburetor.

    Whatever. ..
Don't matter to me what people think of my truck. It's my choice of truck. I just prefer 1st gens. I off road with Jeep's Toyota's name your brand. I don't care what some drives. I just enjoy off roading. No fan boy here. .

Probably about time Toyota made a third gen. Whats it been, 9 years?

The clearance of an Avalanche looks like it sucks ass. Might as well make them all 2wd.

My favorite trucks, whether they be 1st or 2nd gen, are the ones that are dropped waaaayyyy low. So that they really aren't very truckish at all. :der:

Kind of like tits on a guy. Some may like them, think they are cute and all, but really, what's the point?

I for sure don't get it. With it dropped so low you can't even load anything into the bed or else your skidding pavement. But to each his own!

Hydro I can respect, but static drop just makes no sense to me - on a truck. Drop it low on all kinds of cars, but a truck, nah, don't get that. Around here we are a huge lowrider spot. Espanola has an annual event, and you see all kinds of lowriders everywhere. But typically old muscle cars, not a lot of trucks.

For those that like that, good for them. Definitely not my thing! The huge sky jacked truck isn't my thing either. I saw a monstrosity the other day that had to be lifted 20+ inches. I was thinking about his cv axles and the unreal angle they are operating at lol. Must have some pretty custom tranny stuff going on to make all that work.

Well, I am perfectly happy with the size of my manhood, so I never had the urge to sky jack up my truck way up high like that :stirthepot: heh heh

I haven't got my 1st gen yet, but I believe they were built a little better than the 2nds. Both are great trucks and you can't go wrong with either though. I would trust either Tacoma to take me anywhere I wanted and not worry. My 2011 safely took me across the country and back 4 times during the 3 years I owned it and never let me down. Sure my 2004 will do the same, I am on the road constantly for work so I need to be able to rely on the truck I'm driving. Something only I trust a Toyota Tacoma to do the job!

Oh hell no! Wouldn't be caught dead in a Chevy, a Jeep Wrangler would make a fun toy but not for a daily driver. I used to drive a CJ5 daily, never again haha. Jeeps are meant to run around in the woods, not be driven around on freeways. They suck as a daily driver, noisy, uncomfortable, cold, sometimes wet, and horrible gas mileage.

I'm sorry to be late to the argument, but my Mom and Dad have a 2011. I have a 2002. I truly prefer the 2002 over the 2011, and not only because its mine. My truck is much more maneuverable it seems, as the 2011 is a 4 door long box, and mine is a extended cab. So with that, Gen 1> Gen 2, coming from someone with easy access to both.

I wont know until this weekend, but I am pretty sure I am going to favor my new 2004 double cab over my old 2011 access cab haha. I just really love the looks of the older tacoma vs the new ones and I wanted 4 actual doors, a v6, and an automatic transmission. My 2011 was a great truck, but I got more than tired of shifting gears and not having any power out of the 4 cyl. I've heard nothing but good things about the 3.4 v6 in the first gens and this one I am getting only has 75 thousand original miles so it's like new still. Only 20k more than my 2011 so I wont be loosing out in the mileage department much.

Nice! Yeah, that'll be one of the first things I do on this one is rustproof the frame. I made sure and had them send me pictures of it and it looks real good still, want to keep it that way. I intend to drive this truck until it dies so I want the frame to last too. I drive probably 300 miles a week on the road for work so I need the reliability of a Tacoma to get me there. I love these trucks, I'd drive across the globe in one and never think twice about it. Shit I'd drive one to the moon if it were possible haha.

The truck testicles look much better under a second generation truck, hence 2nd gen>1st gen.
