Anyone replace their carrier bearing ?

    I just called Toyota and they want $165 for the part and $540 for Labor!

    Are there any instructions or links to replace this on my own? I can do about anything but never done one of these before. How complicated is it actually?

    Best thing to do is just remove your drive shaft. Take the new carrier bering and drive shaft to a drive shaft/ transmission shop and have them take off the old and put on the new. Should only be about $40.00 :)

    Well I found out after $42.50 from Toyota today that the carrier bearing is ok and the ring/pinion is shot. The backlash is way out and the driveshaft turns about 1/4 turn before turning the axle. So now I am on the hunt for a pumpkin. Axle code is a BO3A 4.10 ratio with diff locker

    Where can you find pumpkins???

    You might not need a new pumkin. Check out a good drivetrain shop. You may just need some new gears, or shims. :)

    I thought about that but finding a GOOD drivetrain shop around here is like finding a needle in a haystack. They are all gone with the old' timers. I have called over 15 places today and no one will touch a TRD rear end.

    Do you have a 4wheel parts in your neck of the woods? Any off road shop should be able to fix you up.

    Yes, but they will only work on Jeep,Chevy, ford rear ends. NO toyotas for some reason.

    Thats really strange. The Toyota rears are far easier to work on than the others. I would keep searching, thee HAS to be somebody that can help you out. What about any members in your area?
