I have a lot of family in education and my wife is a teacher. My city just passed a $600+ million bond package to spend frivolous dollars on schools and other crap when they need to spend what they get more wisely. I voted against the bond since every kid does not need an ipad, indoor pool and other crap. Also the school district bought a shiny new tractor just to roll in a city parade the last 3 years. A new green and yellow tractor is not a good way to spend $20+ grand.

Maybe if districts would spend money on actual education instead of multimillion dollar football stadiums things would improve.

AMEN to that! Your school district (KISD) is the reason I don't feel bad about the education system. Just like college, the priority is no longer actually education. Everyone just wants to keep up with all the shiny new toys that "the Jones'" have.

The money is there for lots of school they just choose to spend it in different ways than they should. Plus u don't need money to teache the kids... Most of the schools already have tons of books that they can use to teach.. The problem is that some teacher choose to just do basics... Not saying that all teachers are like this because my girl is also going to school to be a teacher so I understand some do their job but others don't or the money is used for things that don't need to be bought

Our district is doing very well and is also getting a sizeable amount from oil and gas money in the Barnet shale. IMHO I feel the district asked the voters for the bond to keep the bank accounts padded.
Either way I am sure some districts are doing better than others and it's still the parents responsibility to make sure their kids succeed. Weather it's from modern computer skills, fine arts, skilled trade, or anything in between.

I don't think it's right to point the finger at the governor over budget issues when all of the ISD superintendents make in the neighborhood of $250,000/yr and are nothing more than figure heads who walk around and shake hands and wave in parades. And if the populous actually cared about educating the idiots coming out of school, they'd make that a priority and hire more teachers instead of voting to fund shiny toys.

I agree with there being a problem with distribution of funds, but that's a school District management issue and isn't controlled by the governor. The state money being cut is an issue unto itself.... But AISD budgeting is done at a local level. Every home and property owner in that district sends a check directly to the ISD every year in tax season. How the morons who run the district split it up to them. And if you, as a taxpayer and technically their employer, don't hold them accountable that's your fault.

Jon, it would seem that political speak (even on election day) shuts down bullshit threads.
