Not a bad idea in my mind. More insulation for cold nights and keeps the tent dry(er).

I was wondering about that. I like the idea of insulation and more "water proofness" but it can also prevent moisture from escaping form the tent. So the anti-condensation mat might be a great idea to go along with that.

Also curious about the cover fitting properly.

Yeah I was thinking about that too..

I was wondering when its raining real hard if it will make it louder in the tent or not, plus how much harder the cover will be to get on.

Nick mademan 925 and I put our tents through a fair amount of precipitation a few weeks back and no leaking or anything, held up like a champ. However I could see this being a really good cold weather solution!

so I have acquired a RTT and a bed rack.. I am usually by myself.... so my questions is for you engineers out there : how am I able to put rrt on/off bed rack when needed. I don't always want to carry it around places. but need a better way to mount. Right now I am lifting it to place on 1 bar and sliding it across ( it messes up the paint naturally) trying to avoid that. I also tried the non-slip abrasion strips.. it ripped right through them. what are some options other than building the lever system which I don't have access to installing locations

Jeff I've seen people make like a hand crank winch set up to lift it off towards the ceiling

I designed a free standing hoist system utilizing pulleys and rope. This design did not go as planned. I did learn that a winch type system would need to be used. Like a hand operated crank. Use wire, not rope. There was way too much give in the rope. I abandoned this idea though and used the wood for a bonfire. I found that me and the wife could load it from the side. Yes it scratches the paint off the rack but I was so pissed about wasting money on a prototype hoist I didn't care. I do plan on getting my rack sprayed with line-x though to prevent rust. Just remember, no rope, use wire and also a hand operated crank style winch to lift it.

    Yeah.
I mounted one of these on the ceiling of the garage:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009I8AO6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't use the platform, but I left the side bars on the cables. I just use tie-down straps under the rack/tent and attach the hooks to the eyelets on the cables.

I actually store both the tent and the rack up there -- I don't need the rack on if the tent is not on.

Honestly jeff, you have a setup that pretty much fine. It's not like mine, where it sticks above the cab, you dnt have to worry about wind resistance, and it makes your truck stand out with something functional and unique. Shit is tight, i'd leave that bad boy on, i've had mine always on for over a year now, mpg is pretty much the same around town.

That's exactly the method I've used since I got my tent. It takes just a few minutes get the tent on or off.
