I was given the assignment of reading 10 pages out of our book and filling out the survey on the last page.. Then take one of the goals I listed and explain it more in detail.. What yall think...

My goal is to pursue career advancement in the Air Force. I want to be the best at what I am tasked to perform. I tested for Staff Sergeant for the first time this year and failed to make the promotion cut off by four points. It has motivated me to better prepare myself for my Staff Sergeant Promotion test next year, my short term goal is to exceed the cut off score by double digits. I then want to further my education in the direction of bachelor’s degree, while working my way up the enlisted ranks. In two to three years I would like to be in the position to test for Tech Sergeant and/or applying for OTS.

With promotions, proper training and education doors will open for opportunities in Special duty assignments, the opportunity to become an officer and civilian contracting jobs after retirement. As it stands the only thing standing in my way is me. I have a history of procrastination, and how I use my time outside of work. I put off taking classes the first two years of my enlistment, but now I have earned over 40 credits the past 18 months, and found a degree plan that suits me, and what I enjoy doing. I am currently working in the Air Transportation Career field and pursuing a degree in Transportation and Logistics Management. Reaching my goal of retiring as a Senior NCO or Officer means when I retire I will be able to support my family financially. After retirement I could easily see myself working as a Government civilian or for a company like UPS, DHL, or FedEx at a major US Airport, and play golf every weekend.

My 2nd Assignment was to fill out a Mind Mapping layout.. Of Why I am going to College.

Main Idea – Why I am attending college

    First Subtopic – Career Advancement

Detail – Education /Self Improvement Block on Performance Report (EPR)
Detail – Eligibility for promotion above MSGT
Detail – Ability to apply to go through OTS

Second Subtopic – Career after Retirement

Detail – Government Civilian Contractor Job
Detail – Transportation Logistics Career w/ UPS-DHL-American Airlines.. Etc
    Detail – Troops to Teachers

Third Subtopic – It’s free and easy to attend classes

Detail – Military Pays $4500 annually, provides time to attend classes
Detail – I paid $11,000 and only earned 9 credits in a year of college after high school
Detail – Supervisors allow me to leave work to go to class or log in to school online.

Fourth Subtopic – Be a positive example for my family

Detail – Neither one of my parents have a Bachelors degree
Detail – I have 3 younger sisters that look up to me.
Detail –Be a positive role model and good example for my child(ren).

    Conclusion –

I am attending college because I want to advance my career, and prepare myself for a career after I retire from the military. I am taking advantage of the fact the military is paying for and providing me the time to attend college and earn my degree. Finally I want to be a positive light for those around me; my family, my friends, and my co-workers.

    Government week 2 Homework:

What changed, if anything, in the American political culture between 2004 and 2008?
The changes that occurred between 2004 and 2008 where significant and I believe problematic for our country. In 2004 our country was growing closer together, and building a strong economy. This would all change in the year leading up to the 2008 election and into the future. Although to better see the changes affected us between 2004 and 2008 we need to go back to 2000.
In the year 2000 our country went through a transition, of a Democratic presidency to a Republican presidency. In this transition the country elected a president correctly by the Electoral College, although not by the popular vote. In the eyes of many, even though President Bush got the points he needed many were upset that Vice President Gore, was the more popular candidate. This is a factor that would, in my opinion, worked out the best for our country after the events of 9/11. President Bush would go on to receive high approval ratings for his actions and decisions following the terrorist attacks. With the Republican dominated Congress and Republican President in office, our country as well as our economy begun to grow after the Attacks. This would still lead to pressure from the democratic followers in the US applied more and more negative pressure on the presidency and his policies. Even though the American economy was climbing, he would receive some backlash going into the 2004 election for his decision to invade Iraq. While the support of the democrats against him would grow, he would be favored, and go onto win the 2004 election. In 2006, the Democrats would finally gain control of Congress, have the majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives. This would lead to a number of battles between the Republican President, and Democratic Majority Congress, causing domino effect on our economy starting in 2007.
While some will argue that the effects on the economy were solely the Presidents fault, it can be tracked to poor decisions made by both Republicans and Democrats. As many of the banks and companies that failed were backed by and had support from many of the Congressional leaders. Going into the 2008 election the country had almost completely grown against President Bush, which developed a strong force against any Republican candidate attempting to take his place. The country would go on to elect President Obama, based on his views and ideas of change for the future. We can only hope his bailouts and possible health care reforms benefit our country in the future, and we are able to recover from this almost insurmountable debt.

shit i forgot I had an assignment due tonight.. i gotta write a short paragraph for each one of these questions.. and suggestions or ideas..

Given what you now know about how Congress works and how a bill is passed:

    1. What do you think the likelihood of success will be for President Obama to implement his agenda?

    2. In retrospect, how well did former President Bush do in implementing his agenda?
