Phase One of Operation Cake Drop is complete!

Putting the batter in the spring form pan. Cant see because its wrapped in foil but there is a lever thing on the side that opens the pan up to separate it for easier removal I assume..

    1zpi6tc_678851d7f76c35d785042f1c13d767a208e0b4ec.jpg

Then you put the pan into a baking pan and fill the baking pan with hot water half way up the cheesecake pan. (Water not pictured). From what I gather, the water creates an insulation layer? Allows the cake to bake evenly all the way through or some such sorcery. The foil is to make sure the water does not seep into the cheescake pan and ruin it.

    24mvkmp_a093a155e1485e2debfb00e39ef809579724f51a.jpg

Fresh out of the oven and water pan:

    25k0e9z_809a2a51c530a12fe26c47c186cc036583540dda.jpg

Couple air bubble divots in the top, but for our first cheesecake, I'd say a great success. We should have let the batter settle a little more and tamp it to get any air bubbles out before baking. But no biggie. Its getting sandwiched between two cake layers.

The cheesecake is now in the freezer. Will make it easier to remove from pan and hopefully we do not destroy it trying to get it out. There is no "crust" on it, just the cheesecake.

Will be making the red velvet layers tonight and putting it all together. Will post more pics tomorrow morning. :D

Thanks! There really isnt much ingredient wise for a cheesecake.. Did not realize was that easy to make. I see lots more varieties of cheesecakes in our future :D.

Hope the rest goes as smoothly!

Yeah cheesecake is pretty easy, baking it nicely is the hard part and that's not really hard either. Even a bubbled, cracked cheesecake is delicious, and if its too ugly just throw some fruit on top to cover the imperfect perfection.

I haven't been staying up to date on this thread as much as I should have but I am very happy to see things are going well! Praise God and of course, thanks to the doctors and staff who treated Naomi and the others.

Got her all finished up! Figured I'd post pics now instead of morning.

Thought it turned out real good. :)

    Baking the red velvet cakes:

Cheesecake came out real nice from the pan:

    And how true it is.

The heart is a little cocked and rotated wrong to the letters, but oh well. ;). Naomi likes green and black so that is why we did those colors.

Real happy with the outcome. Should taste good! I'll snap some pics when we cut it tomorrow evening.
