Anyone installed components?

If so where did you mount your tweeter? you have pics? i want to go this rout but i just hate the idea of cutting holes in my doors. any tutorials would be welcome..thanks

you can get some aftermarket mounts from *********.com or you can make them yourself. keep in mind you will also need to have spacers to convert the factory 6x9 to a 6 1/2" hole for the woofer.

good thread... i wasnt aware these came with 6x9s.

im looking into gutting all the factory stereo out of my truck but get mixed answers as to what speakers fit where.

 

thanks for the replies. most cars nowadays come with a mid and a tweeter, but i wouldnt exactly call them components. for those who have done this, is there a specific tweeter size that you must go with in order for it to fit in the stock housing, or must you create your own "pod" so to speak? also, crutchfield lists our maximum speaker size as a 6.5" (06 prerunner double cab). i thought the access cabs were the only ones with a 6x9 up front. thanks

 

if you dont plan on going with a sub, i would definitely go with the 6x9s (if they do in deed fit) as you will get far better bass response than 6.5" coaxials

 

i like good sound quality... and yes i do plan on going with a sub

how many speakers are in the double cabs and where exactly? im not all that familiar with mine yet

 

My '07 double cab came with 6" X 9" in the lower front doors with a separate tweeter up higher. It also came with 6.5" speakers in the rear doors and a 8" sub behind the rear seat passenger side.

Do the front door speakers (mid and tweeter) have seperate wiring from the radio or are they spliced off in the door? I was wondering because most component systems come with a crossover. Where have you mounted it? And wired it?

 

Confirmed

The originals are run in series inside the door with a small cap on the tweeter. I typically mount the aftermarket crossovers on the amp rack or under the front seats.

 

yes i have 6X9's on my 07 double cab and i dont have any jgb or anything like that. ive put in 6x9 hertzs speaekers and not likeink them too much im about to look for maybe a two way or another brand.

Nothing wrong with 6/9 but their simply not made at the quality level that most of the " round" speakers are made at. Anyhow, not to debate that, as everyone knows best.

Id personally go single 8 inch per door. I have some 8s that knock your socks off and people cant believe its a single driver coming from the door.

 

I used the stock tweeters as a mounting plate. i just removed the driver and some metal and mounted polk audio component tweeters in them. The custom mounting plate from tacomtunes is a much easier option.

If you are a little handy a mounting plate can be easily fashioned out of ¼ inch mdf with only a few tools, just use the stock tweeters as a template.
