Starbucks didn't change its jewelry policy because it's anti-love. It changed the rules because its employees will soon be handling more food than ever.
In the last week, outrage erupted over a new company policy that bans workers from wearing engagement and wedding rings to work. Plain bands are okay under the revamped guidelines that now allow tattoos and black denim. But rings with stones -- as well as any watches, bracelets and wristbands -- are out.
The coffee giant says there's a logical reason for the change: it's seriously stepping up its focus on food. Indeed, if the coffee chain wants to achieve its goal of doubling its food business in the next five years, it needs to play by the rules.
"It's all about bringing people under compliance on local and state regulations," says a Starbucks spokesperson. "We're handling much more food now in stores."

While the spokesperson was unable to confirm if regulations differed for coffee shops and more food-centric locations such as cafes or restaurants, he did say that his understanding was that the change was affected by state and local guidelines for handling food specifically.
The FDA's Food Code's take on the issue seems to fall in line with Starbucks' new dress code. "Except for a plain ring such as a wedding band, while preparing food, food employees may not wear jewelry including medical information jewelry on their arms and hands," reads the document.
Sorry, baristas – there's a real reason your boss is asking you to leave the ring at home.

I like the coffee but I can't stand 99% of the workers - the customer service is crap in my area.

I love statements of this nature, "Swamp water is good enough for me!"

News flash. Starbucks is the junk food of coffee. Take green coffee beans, add chocolate.

Starbucks is only junk food coffee for fun. Good times. It ain't sophisticated.

Saying that you like drinking hot swamp water doesn't make Starbucks seem any better or worse to me. They are two entirely different things.

I grind fresh high quality coffee at home with seasonings to make a beautiful cup for a Saturday morning. I drink Starbucks for chocolatey fun on the way to work. I drink the free swamp water at the car dealership while waiting for an oil change. Everything has a place and time.

You ought to try roasting your own beans. I do. I can't hardly drink the free swamp water type coffee at dealerships, open houses etc..

I dont usually drink it from somewhere else, its usually from home. If im not home then i dont drink it, just not a big coffee fan, like some people are. I have to be extremely tired before i will buy it from somewhere to drink. I have tried a starbucks coffee before, and honestly for the price i paid for it, it was horrible, one of the nastiest coffee's i had ever tried. But i wanted to try it to see what all the hype was about, see if it was as good as everyone said, well to me, it wasnt. Everyone has their own tastebuds and they all taste differently, the coffee isnt that good to me, as for you, it may be great. Its just like sweet tea to me, i love sweet tea, but i know alot of people who cant stand the taste of it.

That sounds interesting? It really makes that much difference?

I started making my own fraps at home. Fresh ingredients. Takes maybe 4 ingredients. 5 minutes. Nothing artificial. Took me some research, many tries. But now I have mastered it. Now Starbucks fraps taste like blah almost yuck. Funny how I used to like them, what I got used to?

Yes, I think it makes a big difference. The way you brew a cup makes a big difference too.
