Been there, done that. Don't have any friends in the area so something like that would get boring pretty quick. And we should be getting snow this up coming week if the forecast is right.

It will be my first winter here... I got here March 2015 so I only caught the last of it. I did see some hefty snow and cold when I was traveling back and forth from Jan to March.

Well played! I was driving back and forth from VA Beach to Bflo, 12 times from january to march until I moved in March! LOL!!!!

Oh you poor poor bastard. You moved directly into the path of almost ALL the lake effect snow. Buffalo is a bad place to start in NY.

It was a family choice to help out the parents (dad passed 2 months ago). All in all, got a GREAT job that I look forward to and live in a great area. Snow... I'll adjust... I'm actually a little excited.

So here's the summary of work they recommend while the truck is torn apart, parts only, no labor charged.

Soooooo..... Cheaper alternatives to have them install for me?! I already see the timing cover on Rockauto for $290-$311. Monro did my clutch in 2012 for $345, and CV axle (with boots) for $150. The price for UCA's seems way too high for stock ones!

 

I'd check to see if you could supply aftermarket parts... that shits CRAZY!!!!!

 

Oh yeah I can bring in my own parts. The won't warranty them like the OEM 12 month warranty, but that's expected.

Just trying to figure out what's not needed, what I could supply myself (or do it myself later), and what I should have them do.

I had a clutch replaced in my Corolla twice. Each time by non-dealer shops and each time there was an issue leading to tranny failure later. I took a chance letting Monro do the clutch in the truck, and have been happy with it! Thought it was better than new! But James said he smelled clutch in 1st gear and heard some chatter so it really makes me wonder if I should just let Toyota do it. Maybe other people mess something up, and paying Toyota to do it would get me another 8 years out of it.

Shocks I could get Monro to do, or even do myself. (Hell, factory original front and rear so yeah they're overdue with 130k on them.)

Timing chain cover.... well? I don't know. Never done one of those.

UCAs... I could get some LR ones for $450 before shipping so $920 for stock seems insane.

Not to mention the first three items are commonly needed parts, but they won't cover them?! The steering shaft and yoke takes an air chisel to get off, which damages it, but corp doesn't include that part in the frame! I don't get it. They should include all the parts required to replace the frame, plus anything the guys break/cut/chisel due to rust and corrosion in the process since that's why they're replacing the frame in the first place.
