Sorry to hear that! Give it a bit of time for your head to clear before you make any life-changing decisions.

I know it sucks. We've all been there.

I didnt read the whole thread. But stay in school. Your TEMPORARY problems are making you think a bit irrational right now. Im in no way saying the air force or what not is irrational. Just that you had a plan and a goal so finish it.

I read the whole thread... I've been here too. Things get better in a little bit of time. Lots of good advice has been posted here.

    Whoa Whoa whoa!
When did you guys break up? I think its real recent? DO NOT SEE HER A BUNCH AND TRY TO GET HER TO COME BACK TO YOU RIGHT AWAY! Girls arent attracted to that kind of thing. Seriously! Trust me here. At this point, she wants some space. If you smother her at this time, she will have negative vibes toward you constantly! What you need to remember, is that if you give her some time and space and then shes randomly doing something that sparks a memory of you guys together -a good one- that is better than smothering her and not giving her space to clear her mind as well.
You need to be strong at this time- dont appear as though she just ended your life or something. Just try to keep your mind off everything by staying busy. Study, try and meet new people(some new girls? well, maybe its a little to soon to you for that?). The first year in college can be a little tough that way. Its a strange new place where you dont know anyone- just strike up a conversation with someone in your classes, go to school events and such in order to meet people. It works.

Stay tuff, man. Good luck and dont forget were all here for ya!:)

Yesterday dude. Out of nowhere. We're just talking and discussing the whole situation tomorrow. Nothing major. We'll see where it goes from there.

Hmm, in that case, I think its something she has going on in her head right now. Def give her some time and space to work out what ever it is that she decided was big enough to break things off between you guys. After that, then talk.

One more thing.... No 'text message terrorism'. I mean, dont try and text her a bunch. Sever all communications.

look into the air force / coast guard or nothing imo. quality of life is better, you can get your college paid for plus a pretty good paycheck while you finish your degree. then if you liked it you can join the darkside and be an officer. they make pretty good money too. i kinda wish i would have looked into the coast guard.

Hey derek, My (ex) girlfriend and I broke up at the end of my freshman year of college. It was one of the hardest things you can go through, especially if she was the first special girl in your life like she was in mine. We made ourselves miserable by going back in forth all summer. A lot of fights because we were still trying to force it to work, and most of them started with 'we aren't together, you have no reason to be mad'.

I thought about the military and all but the fact of the matter is that even if you go military, a college degree will allow you to enter higher and excel quicker. I could go in now as an E-3 just because of the number of credits I have.

I finally decided to break it off for good, and what do you know she wanted me back as soon as I stopped acting like I needed her.

Just take your time, give each other some space first. Travel or do something that helps you be able to get back on your own feet again and then sort things out. If is was meant to work, it will, but trying to force it to will only lead to a lot of unnecessary shit.

im kinda in the same boat also pretty much failed my first year of college, felt like i was wasting my time and could be doing something more with my life. but talking with friends and family im stinking to my guns and staying in school. i always thought about the coast guard but my problem was i just cant see myself being in a job where im there 24 7. hopefully the economy will get better soon im planning on joining the electrician trade. but good luck man hopefully school works out.

Don't be sorry for starting this thread. It is actually a very good thing to do. It will enable to vent frustration, plus get different perspective's from everyone who has been there. Believe me Derek, it happens to everyone with a penis. It will also show you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep your head up no matter what the outcome is brother. And never forget that TW is here for you.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I'm not trying to belittle you, but that sounds about normal. I'm 32 now and I too had many of the same problems. I left home, moved up north, started in a strange city with strange people, and get this- was so shy I couldn't score a girlfriend if I tried.

When you get older you realize that you will have friends at different stages of your life. As for me, I haven't talked to most of my high school friends in almost 10 years. My best friend lives across the country. When I was in college I had a lot of great friends. Now they live all over the country and I seldom talk to them.

What you find is that you tend to make friends at jobs, and even then when you leave those jobs you'll go through the same thing all over again. I've been at 6 jobs so far, and hopefully about to start no.7. At each and every one of them I made new friends, some I still hang out with, some I don't.

But you also have to find ways to make new friends and buddies: Get involved with groups that have the same interests. I joined a lawn mower racing group 3 years ago. Now I have 10 friends I race with and drink beer with. Its great. I also recently volunteered to help restore a retired aircraft carrier and am already getting to know a lot of cool people. So you can make new friends. When you get older they just so happen to not come from school.

But lastly, if you're going to join the military it shouldn't be because you're having a hard time. You should want to because you like planes, ships, serving the country, or whatnot. You need that right enthusiasm and using the military to get away from problems won't help matters.

Hang in there. I was where you were about 13 years ago and I know it sucks because you're getting used to life on your own.
