back pressure is torque, most if not all aftermarket mufflers(exhaust) is less back pressure and thats how they give you the gains(more top end)
you loose low end for the gain of top end.

people think its faster cause of the increased noise but in fact its slower in the quarter mile then stock(99% of the time)

Gladly, and steamer clams, lobster rolls. I used to spend summers there...

The key is flow, and how well the cylinder is emptied of combustion products and refilled with a charged mixture...exhaust needs to be tuned to intake, and optimized for specific rpm ranger/flow regimes. You can build a motor for maximum torque at almost any rpm range. Racers normally like it up high for max hp.

I just installed the Magnaflow off-road (17147). Only did an 18 mile test, but did notice more responsiveness. I also have the K&N insert filter. Although it is counter to most comments about torque, I noticed a quicker recovery from low rpm on an incline. Turning onto my steep street from the main road, if traffic allows, I usually downshift to 2nd and let it recover, this is where I noticed the biggest difference.
I had the K&N, with a Banks cat-back, same sense of better recovery, and throttle response.
OP, if you want raspy, the Magnaflow is it. A little louder than I expected.
Amazon, $349.50, delivered to Hawaii was a deal. About 45 minute total install.

I'm looking at cat backs right now too. Also, a CAI. I'm looking to add a S/C in the spring, so I'm guessing both of these modes would help in this situation?

I don't care all that much about sound personally. If I'm spending $5000ish for a S/C though, I want to get as much out of it as I can...

Toyota themselves claim a few HP from the TRD. I had one on my last build and loved the sound with the TRD CAI.

May not add any HP but, sure ironic that the majority of members on TW are proud of their Trucks and spend money on worthless shit to make them look good and then bash mufflers.
Personally I have testicles and enjoy truck sounds bitches :).

Don't know about HP increase, since I added the TRD exhaust at the same time as my S/C, but the sound is minimal rolling light to light and good and throaty and 3-4 times louder than stock with the throttle W/O.
