You have to be one dumb driver to ignore that advice. Deer dive into the headlights, or didn't you know that? Shut the headlights off, honk the horn, and voila, the deer is gone by the time you get the headlights back on. Anybody with half a brain knows that. LMAO at you.

Typical TW. Let's take a straight answer thread and turn it into a circle jerk onto some guy who REALLY likes his Baja kit...

 

I would guess you're experience is primarily offroad, and are not all that familiar with on-road, night time driving, when wildlife is on, near, next to, or about to enter your path. I have witnessed a deer, and a moose take a dive, but it was because the road was icy and they slipped when they tried to jump. I've never heard of an ungulate use the 'dive' method to escape death, much less dive or go headlong into when faced with a bright light.
They are more likely to look up, and freeze, in which case your method guarantees you will hit them.

If you actually had time to turn off the headlights, honk your horn, and maintain control of your vehicle, then you had plenty of time to slow down, and steer to avoid a collision. Do aim for where the deer is, or behind the deer as it is true, there are unlikely to turn around. (unlike a cat)

You are right though with moose; Turn off your headlights, and the moose will 'dissappear' ..along with your brain matter as 800lbs of flesh come through your windshield.

learned about truck lease pros and cons, TRD Offroad vs SR5, and what to mod to build your SR5 into a capable TRD Offroad like vehicle (minus the ATRAC), and probably save money.

It did start out good and helpful but around midnight or so somebody said to turn off your lights if you see a deer. And it'll vanish.
The rest is history.

The first few comments were funny, then it started into silly, and now it's classic TW. If anyone believes it's a good idea to turn off there lights to avoid a deer than mother nature will take care of weeding them out, you don't have to worry so much about it.
