TRD Supercharge kit

Exactly, as long as you're having fun and not killing anyone, that's all that matter. I bought my Tacoma for fun, work, and haul stuff. Along the way I heard about the TRD SC and how it's smog legal I got hooked. No more worries about showing up for smog and failing on the spot. Not looking for a 500 whp beast like Torspd, Super Werthy, or Jutus

I love how some people aren't happy with nearly a 30% increase in horsepower from a supercharger that maintains the factory warranty...

The Tacoma as a V6 putting out under 250 HP stock. You just aren't going to see the massive gains you can get with forced induction on V8 muscle cars because 30% on a base 400 HP engine is a lot more than 30% on our V6's. BTW I'm just using 30% as a base number, a lot of aftermarket kits do a lot more than just add boost.

If you have the money and want the Tacoma to feel like it, in my humble opinion, it should of felt like off the lot then supercharge it!

Which bolt on's give you 60HP? I'm not asking sarcastically, I think you may of had expectations that were unrealistic of what the TRD S/C can deliver without the same supporting mods. I mean there's guys who have got close to 60 HP with long tube headers, True CAI, full CAT-less exhaust (technically illegal), a throttle body upgrade, and a custom tune using a plug in EMU but then you're talking about nearly the same sort of money as a S/C, albeit spent over a period of time.

If you're talking about some of the guys who have rebuilt 1GF-RE engines to have more than 300 HP, that's not really a bolt on to me. Anything that requires the engine out of the truck isn't "bolt on", though I'm sure some look at it that way.

I think it depends on what you expected from the S/C. The S/C basically gives the Tacoma the same RWHP as a full sized truck with 1000 lbs less weight. It's not going to turn it into a rocket. It does give it a far more useful torque curve IMHO.

Now put your S/C (or any F/I you fancy) together with the same bolt on mods, then you're getting into race truck territory. Just don't expect the engine to hold up very long stock.

 

Are you automatic? Maybe do some research into the transmission valve body upgrade. There's a lot of talk that under high stress loads the transmission in our trucks slips way to much with the stock valve body. Just an idea, I haven't had it done but that might be worth looking into to get the results you're looking for.

Larger tires is probably the one item that makes such a difference on your vehicle...ya know...torque multiplication comes into play with your revised gear ratio. Going from the stock 30-inch tires to 33's or larger can make a significant impact on any engine performance modification.

Just my opinion, but it does make a huge difference.

 

My god, your transmission must be soup by now. That is just way to big of a tire with a regear.

 

You're the reason Toyota never warranties any thing.

Well, I might just pay to have it installed when I pick up the 4x4. if I buy anything that's got more than a 2 year warranty on it, I'll probably just shop around for the cheapest dealer install. If I don't get a good warranty because of an older truck, then yea, self install all day long.
