    nothing cool
The 200lb limit must be on earlier models right? I weight 175, my dad 180 and we sit on the tailgate all the time with no problem. I've had 3 people on it many times during sporting events. Maybe if all the weight is concentrated in ine area, like a bike tire thats a different story.

Definitely try to straighten the tailgate before putting an aftermarket cap on it.

I'm thinking these tailgates will bend if you are putting 500lbs on the sucker. I've stepped on an off it, sat on it for extended periods nothing and straight as when I picked her up ( and I'm a bit pudgy at 215lb). Not sure what all the hollering about weak tailgates is about.

The weakest part about it is the clips on the plastic caps.

I must say you've got some nerves of steel to pull it off! I personally wouldn't dare to put half of that on my flimpsy looking Taco tailgate.

800lbs! That's 4x the weight cap! You better get a trailer quick or buy a Tundra. These are light duty trucks not full size.

I'm still thinking about a trailer. A nice Carry-On Lowes trailer can be had for as low as $430. Only drawbacks are storage space, maintenance, license, highway speed limited to 55mph. I've also been looking for used but seems many folks think their old pickup bed conversions are worth $500. HA, and for rusted junk that might not even track straight. Might as well get a new purpose-made trailer.

I've had three dirt bikes in the bed with no tailgate issues.
Short bed, so all three rear wheels were on the tailgate, and about a 45 min drive with 3 miles on a bumpy dirt road.

    That's all good.

Most of us that had a bent one, thought it wouldn't happen to us.

    Guess What!

OK, its sounds like a crapshot if the gate will bend or not. The point that someone else mentioned was that its not just the static weight on the gate, but the dynamic weight of the increased load while in motion, such as a rough road causing the load on the gate to bounce. Or the load on the edge when loading combined with my standing on the ramps or the gate + the weight of the cargo. Both of those are over the rated 200lbs.

Well, being that Im not a gambler, I'd better reinforce the gate. I like the idea of the DIY angle irons reinforcement. Way cheaper than the RF reinforcement, especially since I missed the GB.

You know what might be a good cheapo temp fix, go to hd or lowes and buy a piece of angle iron the width of the tailgate. Place it on there when loading and unloading under the ramps to distribute the weight to the sides. There will prob be some sliding so get some adhesive pads. Just a thought

In spite of the shipping issues I had with my protector, I REALLY like the thing. If I had it to do over I think I'd go with Aluminum, but it's way solid now. Funny when other people go to open the tailgate...it's much heavier. You just get a WTF look when they grab it with one hand.
