    So I know that I havent been here long but I would like to get some opinions. I bought my 2002 ext cab TRD 4x4, with the M/T (Completely stock minus FJ wheels) about 5 months ago and I love it. A coworker on another unit has a 2004 pre-runner TRD 4 door (Stock drivetrain; Lifted somehow other than coil spacers. It has bili's is all i know right off) that she has decided to sell. I REALLY want a 4door. My 2 year old son fits fine in my ext cab but I really would rather have a 4 door. The big dilema would be giving up my 4x4. Now I dont offroad much, but I like having the 4x4 just in case I need it. What do you guys and gal think? Give up 4x4 for the 4door? The 4 door is in fantastic shape too.. how much is a 4x4 swap going to run me? I can do all of the labor myself.:pout:

    I see what you guys are putting out there, but I really dont offroad much. There is nothing but mud around here. You guys are hard core offroaders compared to me. Only time I use 4x4 is if I need to get out of the woods and its rained on the clay road that I've been on. Plus I think I can get the truck for 9k. If I can get 10k out of my truck, that is 1k to go towards a 4x4 swap. Which is what the money WOULD go to if I could pull the deal off. Damnit.... I want both..

    If I 4x4 swap I would more than likely be doing a manual swap anyway. All of the people in my area selling manual transmissions on CL have no clue what the bulky box on the back is anyway. I can normally find a tranny/TC combo for around 300 here. I'll admit I've not read much on 4x4 swaps or transmission swaps though. I know I would need Tranny, TC, F/R drive shafts, ECU, CV axles, front diff, but that's all I know of without looking up the small nit picky stuff.

    I would put it in the camper shell that comes with it lol

    I love the logic here! Sell mine, Invest in small, high risk stock, wait for 5 years, sell that stock for 100x's the origional cost and BOOM! I can now have one of every flavor tacoma!!:D Realistically, it will not happen lol
