    First prototype is in!!

Just a few very minor tweaks to make and the first batch goes to the plasma table, then to forming, then to powder coat, then out the door....

The underside is just flat steel.

It anchors with the four bolts that hold the side rail for the cleat on, and also those two bolts near the back.

Being made from 11 gauge steel, it is really strong. All the bolts are to the inside of the bed, so I tried to pull up on the edge of the cap from the outside, and you can't make it move.

I'm assuming the track goes back in place once the rail is installed correct? I'm in brother. You've got my address just let me know how much and the money will be on the way.

When these are ready, I am in for a set + your tail gate cap. Can they be shipped together to save on shipping $$?

Good work, I have been using the crossbars you made, the HD option would be even better!

Yes sir, they can definitely be shipped together.

Also, the heavy duty version of the crossbars is going to be cut in a day or two. I made final design tweaks to that product last night as well.

That was my concern, way to address a potential problem right off the bat and not choose to ignore it.

Does it replace the existing plastic caps or go over them ?

How thick is it compared to the plastic cap ?

It's a bolt on replacement for the factory caps.

It is 1/8" thick, where as the factory plastic cap is hollow, and it is roughly 3/8" thick.

People with camper shells and toppers should love these. It gives a nice flat surface for things to sit on.

Chad - I have been on the fence for the tailgate cap. Now you have my interest. If you could make the final piece that would level the front of the box I would be in. I have a Leer XQ on my rig and have to double up the foam tape on the from to make up for the overlapping box rails...

Can't wait to see the finished product. Recommend the same metal for all pieces for the anality in all of us.. ;-)

These side rail caps, with my tailgate cap, create a level surface all the way around.

I believe he's talking about the cab end which drops down from the sides a bit

Ahhhh, yes, he probably is. My caps will be a lot closer in height to the cab end than the factory caps are.
