Toyota switched frame vendors for model year 2009 and up.Supposedly the newer frames have better rust proofing. My frame looks fine, but I wash the undercarriage at least weekly. As soon as I can when salt or that liquid brine is on the road.

My 2006 Tacoma just failed inspection this AM. The frame has rust holes in several places and yes there is no recall in PA yet but the dealer said they are expediting this for me. Said it could be next week or the beginning of Dec when it is released. New frame, suspension, control arms, brake lines, gas lines etc... About 13K in frame, parts, and labor from Toyota.

    Sandblasting Vs Scaling?

I took it to a guy yesterday and discussed the situation with him and he said "absolutely not"! on the sandblasting of the frame as it would put sand all throughout the pickup.

He said that the way to do it would be to take a "scaler" which is like a needle drill and go over all of the rust and get it off the best that he could of which he states he would probably not be able to get it off completely.
He said at that point he would re-coat it with Por-15.
Looking for advice and appreciate your opinions.
    Thanks in advance.

Here you go. I wish they would have replaced the tow package subframe which is flaking badly, but hey can't complain when they replaced the frame, leaf springs and brake lines. Rides like a new truck!

How long did this take? I have an 06 and need to bring it in to have it looked at. I haven't noticed anything but we shall see.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I want to get my 04 looked at, it has some pretty bad surface rust and I want to make sure. Are they still doing the recall on the 01-04 Tacomas? If not, what would I be looking at cost wise to replace the frame? Crushing the truck isn't an option, she's my baby, she only has 76k original miles and is way too pristine to destroy.

I am still waiting for them to call me .
    The frames are back order!
My Tacoma was verified last week of September.
Needs a full replacement ,and because of so many recall, they told me that it might take up to 12 weeks before they do the work.
So probably not before the end of December ,and probably not before January .
At least ,they will do the work.
    Regards
    Charly

Not sure if this is against forum rules and regulations or not, but I'm a service advisor for a Toyota dealership in MA. If anyone needs help with recalls especially frames let me know. These are generally for 2000-2004 Tacomas and I can also do a VIN check to see if there are any other outstanding recalls on your truck as well. Just shoot me a PM or reply here and I'll do my best. Thanks.

The most common spot seems to be the inside frame rail right next to the driver side cat. I have a 3"x4" hole in that area. Also had a front sway bar frame mounting bolt break.

Has anyone ever been denied a frame recall due to having a drop bracket lift?

got the letter in the mail.. that was for my old 07 I had, but traded it for a ford 150 until the engine starting to go in 2012 traded in for' 12 taco.. now a' 14 taco. I am sure someone brought it from wholesale. ( it racked a lot miles on the 07)

Just picked my 06 up from the dealer. I had the spiral cable fixed in the steering column and also the frame rust fix. The dealer said that my frame was not badly rusted and they sprayed it. I honestly think the spray job looks horrible and drippy. I'm not sure that I am happy with the results. see the pics

Oh man, I hope they replace the leaf springs when they replace my frame. My leaf springs are shot.

My frame looked better before they sprayed it. I also asked the service tech if toyota had come up with the fix for the leaf springs breaking, he said they are expecting a fix any day now.

Wow, I'm glad they don't use salt here in Bend, Oregon. That kind of rust is just inexcusable. I look at mine occasionally and wire brush off slight surface rust, then hit it with rustolium. If I had East Coast rust like that, I'd freak out. Driving around on rustbucket crap frames like that is flat out dangerous. Shame on Toyota for not getting this shit fixed. It's been going on way too long. Along with the limp leaf springs and super rust, Toyota's quality aint what it used to be. My daughter's 1992 Camry was damn near bulletproof. I guess those days are over for Toyota.
