Aluminum f150

So when people are done with their truck they can use it for a beer can??

Is this the way if the future?

Aren't body panels and sheet metal pathetic enuf or is this an mpg thing?

Figured i would see what others think of this.

 

An aluminum frame would be lighter which would get you better MPG, but the price of the truck is going to go up considerably versus a steel frame truck.

 

They have been making the frame on the F150 Aluminum for over a year now. Half were silent sales and the other half were for the construction side of sales.. No one even knew the difference

 

I know they sent some customers early Alu bodied F150s for testing without telling them of the change. But according to Ford the frame of the 2015 F150 is still steel, only the body is aluminum.

 

I think the Frames of the Aluminum F150 are steels.

So what's the problem with aluminum body on steel frame?

 

Frame is steel body parts and bed are aluminum so what's wrong with saving 700# of weight? Land Rover has been using aluminum panels for 40 years or more this is nothing new Audi's have aluminum frames and body panels. So with the same running gear you can now haul and extra 700#

I suspect the trucks with the torsion spring damped tailgates would be more difficult to remove.

 

On the 2.7 liter ecoboost V6 the oil pan is plastic, WTF?

 

It's not the first one with a plastic oil pan frankly they are far more rugged than an aluminum one take it from some one that has replaced several on VW's
