Just wanted to offer a BIG THANK YOU to Kevin and all here at TW! My research here and the feedback I received helped me to diagnose my bad wheel bearing and get it fixed in short order. I am now enjoying the sound of silence from my front-end...boy it had gotten loud. I feel so much better now, and at just a fraction of what it would have cost to have it done by someone. So awesome! finishing a few orders this afternoon, tracking #'s have been PM'd

 

replaced the original bearing on this Prerunner hub and installed 1/2" longer studs

Will the 4x4 hubs work on a pre runner?

 

No

 

In more detail, the Prerunner hub assembly uses a retaining nut on the back of the hub flange. It has two purposes:
1. to retain the flange in the bearing.
2. to keep the proper amount of preload on the bearing, it is torqued to 203 ft/lb's to achieve the preload.

A 4x4 hub assembly uses the cv shaft axle and nut to retain the flange in the bearing and to also keep the proper amount of preload on the bearing.

Yes, a 4x4 hub will bolt onto a Prerunner but the bearing will fail & even before that the hub flange will walk out of the bearing.

 

ohh, good to know. I'm ready to order a pre runner set, if you install apr studs and keep your studs will the price be the same + apr studs? Or will you discount your studs that your keeping?

 

The flanges already come with the stock length studs installed so the price is no different. I typically send the stock studs back with the order unless the customer tells me to toss them.

and what sucks is that the bearings i got installed last week are koyo too...so i think its an installation problem when they pressed and torqued the nut
