    Ah, I see.

Is your 4Runner really that unreliable? You should think about trading that in...

    :D

    Morning everyone.

If there was I have a hard time believing they'd call Alex...

He probably saw a cute girl down at the mall and was chasing her.

Soccer mom mobiles square off, you should do a write up for Consumer Reports with your findings.

Thats what i was thinking, isnt the 5.9 just a crappy 360cid that they put in some rams, then "sport" dakotas/durangos?

Edit....they had 250hp according to wiki

The 5.9 was the 360 after they went to the metric designations. They had all kinds of torque, usually around 330-350lb/feet, but were short on HP. Couple them with a truck transmission and they weren't a drag racer. Good engines for towing or plowing, though.

Never said they were a good engine for longevity...
For plowing and towing you need torque. The 5.9's produced a lot of it, for the era.

Besides, like I've said before, my family always had great luck with Dodges. Based on personal experience, I'd have put a Dodge with the 318/manual against pretty much anything Toyota made for a longevity contest.

I used to get it a lot when I worked at a parts store, too.

"I need an alternator for my 1990 Ford with the 5.4"

And then they'd argue with you when you told them that Ford didn't offer that engine for that year

Strictly from a reliability standpoint, I'd take the old Ford 300 I6. Wouldn't win any drag races but that engine was bulletproof. Just like a lot of things in that era, they don't make 'em like they used to.

Yeah, we have a Ford 300 in my parent's Thiokol snowcat. It's the same as the slant six in my Dodge; a low power, low compression, ultra reliable engine.

Sounds about right, not an overly powerful machine but slow, steady and could haul. We had one at my company in VA that was a beast. Thing had almost 400k miles on it, was on it's 8th clutch, 3rd transmission and original engine. It was used as a drill rig support vehicle so it was beat to shit it's entire life (thus the clutch and transmission replacements) but you couldn't kill that thing.
