Lots of bolt on chrome stuff
I need some input from you guys that have been to Moab before! I have a winch and 33's w/ 3" OME lift. I have lots I'd like to add to the truck before Moab but I wont have time/funds to get it all done - help me decide what is more important! I'm torn between either adding a rear locker OR a RTT. The more I read trail descriptions the more I see 35's and rear locker as minimum requirements. But sleeping the cab gets old. What would make my trip more enjoyable?

I would say it depends on the trails you want to run. If you want to go rock crawl and do some of the more challenging trails, get a rear locker and a cheap ground tent. If you want to run the scenic trails and not risk damaging your vehicle but have a luxury camp, get the RTT.

I definitely don't have experience though with the challenging trails though.

At the same time, you don't want to run the locker on a lot of the trails because of how much traction you already get from the terrain

Locker and a ground tent for Moab! The event spans several days and camp is in the same spot (unless you do a multiple day trip, but that's not common there at the event). Set your ground tent up and go wheel and come back to the tent still set up that night. The guys with RTT's would have to pack it up every morning and then unpack it at night after the trail and that is more weight up high to make your center of gravity worse on the trail.

There were some guys with their RTT's on trailers though just left the tent set up the whole time.

A locker will increase your capability and control on the trails.

Meh. Once I hit the trailhead 4wd and the rear locker get engaged. I only disable them if I need to make a really sharp turn (like turning around) or if I am on an easy-high traction trail like Hells or Fins.

Front locker is a bit different though and I only use it when I need it.

either way you'd have plenty of options to choose from...

many trails that a stock tacoma can handle..many trails 35s and lockers would be handy...and a handful more that require more

most of the hard trails i've done in my list was done with 33s and a rear e-locker...just gets easier the larger tires you have to get over the ledges..

    done...

and many unnamed in between and outside

Well, I'll be on 35s by then and hopefully a rear locker. Ive been looking into doing the Kokopelli with the eastern guys since I'll be in that convoy as you probably know and whatever else they decide to try to kill me with. Since I am first time, I'm hoping you all guide me the right way

dude you have got to stop using that pic as an example. I'm not aired down not locked not in 4wd it's not even a fair test of the trucks flex.

And yet it's still more flex than anyone who went to the event last year had!

Except for Jerry maybe. We never put him on the RTI.

Haha. I guess I could do that too.
Thanks for the input. It sounds like I'll be putting off the roof top tent for awhile longer.
Sweet. Thanks for taking the time to make that list. I've got some reading to do.

Nope. She doesn't dig the rock crawling as much as I do so she won't want to burn up her PTO time for it. She'll save it for hunting and camping.

If my cousin is free I might convince him to come. Maybe get him to bring his dirtbike and see how he keeps up. haha
