Thanks for the reply. I was guessing it had to do with being drafted, but I didn't know the serial number prefix part.

    MQQSE,

This may rub some the wrong way, but the army and I did not see eye to eye on many things. I was thrown out of every unit I was ever in. In one I only lasted 8 days.

My gripe, they refused to let me vote. My view was that if I had no say in how the country was run, I was a slave.

When I got out, I was given a good conduct medal. I never did a thing wrong, but I always maintained I was a free man. When I arrived at a new unit the first thing I did was explain to the first shirt that I was a free man. I may be incarcerated by the government, but I was a free man. Feed me right, give me a place to sleep, and treat me with respect, and I would be more loyal than a dog. Fail to do this and I would fight back. Not one of them was smart enough to understand that I was serious. The usual response was that I would do as I was told.

In basic, the drill instructors pushed drugs to the recruits and the officer's looked the other way. I said this was wrong. When they wanted me to run in formation and shout obscenities, I said I ceased to do that in grade school. When the group would be punished for the behavior of one individual, I refused to accept the punishment. I would tell them that they could punish me anyway they wanted for refusing, and I would accept that, but I would not accept punishment for someone else's behavior. I was sent to the shrink more than once.

The army was not equipped to deal with someone that had been on their own for years, and I was too Irish to be subservient.

    Flameproof suit on.

You won't be flamed by me. I respect the fact that you stood by your principles; yet still did your duty, served your time, and were honorably discharged. Very different time in the history of our country, and I wouldn't dare to judge you about something of which I have no first hand knowledge.

I am reminded of a quote written to me by one of my Captains when I was a young new NCO, "Doing what's popular isn't always right, and doing what's right isn't always popular." I have revisited it's meaning many times over the last two decades.

I respect your service, and appreciate your sharing with us here. Thank you.

A handsome lot we are Dave...at this time in my life, I'm glad I'm considered old. We can get senior discounts, people hold the door for you and offer to get your walker for you(LOL), and when you tell someone to "take a hike" they contribute it to being you being senile. LIFE is Good:D

:( Yep, that's what my gut told me when you posted "something didn't feel right" this morning. Continued thoughts and prayers, especially that the pain is manageable.

Been kinda busy... cut my grass / vacumned up the leaves after work today... finished up in the dark  I "think" I got all the front yard  Put all the leaves in one big pile and ran over it a few minutes with the mower... pile much smaller now :D

    How's it going Rob?

Going well Susan. Spent Saturday - Monday mostly doing stuff with Kristi and the grands. Tuesday I helped Randy with some 6x6 suspension upgrades to get his machine ready for Winter plowing duty; plan to do much the same to mine in the Spring. Today I changed oil, greased driveline, and applied Fluid Film in/to my truck.

That's a lot of work after work. You must have wanted it done.

Time to get ready for work. Sleep well Susan. :)
