Bike Mount Ques.

How many bikes can successfully be mounted to bike racks mounts on the deck rail just behind the rear window? I would like to buy mounts for 4 bikes but not sure if the max number will be 2, 3, or 4 total bikes. Thanks.

 

On the rail in the nose of the bed, I think maybe 3 road bikes, or 2 mountain bikes. Just because you can't alternate the handlebars. Now, like lsocoee said, if you go sideways and angle them slightly, alternating from one side of the bed to the other, then you should be good for 4 or 5 of either road or mountain bikes in a long bed taco.

 

I have a short bed taco. How many going sideways with this bed?

 

get a nice big blanket, drape it over the tail gate, pad the top of the tailgate with towels or something, place your front tire over the tailgate, place a strap over the bikes and your on your way. i've fit 7 bikes in the back easy doing down hill runs with my 06 taco.

 

You could easily get 4 MB's in there, but you would have to loosen the stems and turn the bars a bit to get them all to fit.
I've tried loading my bike side to side, and it won't fit, wheel base is too long. GT i-Drive Team edition.

Best price I've found. Looks like I may have to drill (2) 1/2" holes for the bolts which I will use to mount them to the bed rail but the best price I've seen out there.

 

This is one easy way to get at least 3 and maybe four. Use two mounts for bikes facing forward as you have described. Then place a bike (or 2) between the two with handle bars facing backward. You can secure using bungee ties or the bike mounts from Performance http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...e.cfm?sku=3702 . The big problem is handlebars. Keep in mind that road bikes have more narrow handlebars, so you'll have more options there. With the track mounts you can place the bikes to the outside of the bed with handlebars hanging outside the truck. That will leave you with quite a bit of room in between. I have a shortbed and you can get a bike in there sideways using a mount. However, you have to angle the back tire quite a bit to make it fit.

 

With a Short bed I'd be surprised if any bike would fit without removing the front wheel.

Not sure what you are referring to.

 

18" is considered a medium frame

16" small
18" medium
20" large

I am talking frame size and not wheel size, that is assuming all are 26" rims.
