You can fit a 33 under there. It's tight though. And if it's wide it's not worth it.

    Question....

03' 3.4l, if my power steering pump completely calls it quits will I just lose power steering or could it sieze up and actual stop the motor? A friend had his go out on a 2nd gen 4cyl, it froze up and stalled his motor. He thought he blew the motor. I would hate to have that happen on the freeway or hauling ass through some big whoops. Hoping to get through holidays before I dump more $ into this pile

Any insight would be much appreciated.

It pretty rare that they freeze. They mostly get really weak and it is a bitch trying to steer. My only experience is really only with Ford pumps and when Toyota racks blow up the pump overheats and wears itself out.

I would think the belt would go before it stopped the motor. But if you where just idling I could see it stalling the motor. But not if you are moving. Turning would be way harder all the sudden though.

I think its worth a try, to save space in the bed.

There seems to be enough room underneath my rig when I looked. The only real tight spot is on the driver-side, where my 31" spare is about 1" away from the spring pack. About 4" of room on the passenger side. Even more on the rear.

The 2" difference in diameter between a 31" tire and a 33" means that the difference in radius is only 1". I think all it would take is modifying those brackets by straightening out the bends, a bit, on the passenger side.

I was able to use the stock location for a 33" spare in my '84 4runner without any mods, and the runner is narrower and shorter than the Tacoma. The 'brackets' did not have a bend on them at all .
