I think you are on the right track trying to identify your requirements first. If you get into weaponry, your 1st won't be your last... ;-)

You want to carry around for camping, however are you planning on open or concealed carry? Do you have any training or familiarity around weapons? Reason why I ask is if you do not and do not carry as a service weapon, i recommend getting a manual thumb safety vs pressure or trigger safety.

What are you trying to protect or is this for range and practice?

 

I've got a 9mm XDM in the 4.5 and I love it. I'm considering getting an XDS too now haha. I was torn between the XDM and the S&W Pro Series

 

I love my glock and my xdm. My sig that my dad has(took it and wont give it back) is by far my favorite pistol. Also my dads HK USP is a gun I would love to have. Also who doesnt love 1911's?

Basically what I'm saying is Kyle you cant go wrong it's all personal preference and price range.

 

You have to see what fits you best and something you won't hate shooting. And what caliber fits you best.

No plans to open or conceal carry really. Would just like to have it for wheeling and safety. Also just shooting for fun. Don't really see myself going to a range a lot or anything. I have no formal training lol, but I'm comfortable with them and what not though. Not sure what the pros and cons are on the different safety's, but I really liked the way the XDM works. I feel comfortable that there's not one in the chamber and vice versa.
