There's a video of this? Do send, I would love to see an enterprise level multirotor fly.

Oh I think I've finally made up my mind on my next hex. It'll be 940mm once I install the new arms. So I'm thinking of using the Turnigy Multistar 5008-340KV motors with 17x5.5 props :D

I decided against going the 8S route for now. Everything is more expensive and harder to find.

Ugh, I keep flipping back and forth. I was thinking this way I could future proof my hex. If I wanted more power I had full access to it. After hours of research last night I'm now considering the 4822-390kv motors. I've seen some really impressive long flight time builds and they provide a pretty decent amount of power. Probably more power than I would need for a long time. They're also $10 cheaper per motor and in stock.

The 4822-390 generates about 650-700g of thrust at 3.5A on a 4S with 17x5.5 props. The 5008-340 generates about 950g of thrust at 3.2A on a 6S with 18x5.5. Both are pretty impressive.

I did some math on ecalc.ch and based on a AUW of 3200g I should average about 25mins of flight time with either motor and a 10,000 mAh battery.

3200g isn't much. If it was an octo with 400kv motors and a 20k-30k mah battery you should get 20min of mixed flying with about 10 lbs of AUW.
Not saying yet, still have to assemble and test it

It's a hex I bought with a gimbal, not the tarot. I am still trying to assemble it (no FC or FPV yet).

But the motors and ESCs are mounted, I have the batteries there that need connectors soldered on, the gimbal is assembled but not tested and calibrated, I don't have any legs for the copter yet and don't want to spend $200 on retracts. The tarot is definitely a budget build for a good camera platform.

Ok so I've been doing a little research here and there lately and I know there really isn't a straight forward answer to this question, but I feel like the first thing I need to do is buy the TX/(possibly RX together) to at least get started. I had an old one from when my Grandpa used to fly RC planes but I found out it is probably way to old and outdated for it to really even come close to working for multi-rotors. From what I can tell I need atleast 6 channels. Most articles I have read say to get the best you can afford so you can grow into it.
The 6-8 channel TX seem to run around $200-300 for a name brand one? Someone will say this brand others will say that brand so maybe just a couple recommendations to point me to something for starting with, I know I don't need an 18 channel TX nor could I afford one.
Next up a good Flight controller. The KK2.1.5 seems to be an ok route yes?
I found a kit that you build yourself http://multirotormania.com/multirotor-packages/314-fpv-quadcopter-complete-wfpv-bundle.html seems like a decent place to start?
I would like to get into FPV eventually so that kit already had some of the stuff. A video RX and display will probably come shortly after.
Oh yeah and batteries and a charger. 3s is a good place to start with it sounds like? And I can do more research on chargers but there was talk about those just recently.

Are there anything else you need in order to build one of these? Like a software or specific tools?

Thanks for any information, this thread has been pretty helpful already.

As for Transmitters look at the Taranis. $229 and it includes a 16 channel receiver. I have one and absolutely love all the control I have over my configurations.

I also started out with the kk2.1.5, it's not bad for learning. It doesn't have much in the way of features, but it is dead simple to setup. Make sure you update to the latest firmware (which is also a pain in the ass. You have to buy an atmega flashing tool). I would recommend the Acro Naze to get started. $24.99 and has tons of features and it uses USB to configure.

I started with 3S, plenty of power for a beginner. You could start with something like the ZMR250 frame and get the Tiger MN2206-2000 or MN2206-2350 motors. Excellent combo with plenty of speed. Then when you get comfortable you can just buy 4S batteries and plug them in. Pretty decent speed and performance increase with minimal cost.

The KK2 board is a great board for starters and mini quads / hexas. It is very user friendly and very easy to use and setup.

Is there anyone in NOVA that could provide me some assistance in putting together a multi-rotor? Looking for something that I can mount my DSLR to with a 3-axis gimble and get some good shots of our training events from an overhead perspective. Totally inexperienced with this stuff. Thanks in advance.

It will cost you somewhere between $3k-$10k depending on what you want. Which camera and lens are you using is the first step to pick out your components.

Just ordered the Taranis x9d Plus with x8r receiver and travel case!
    Step one - CHECK

So it turns out there aren't a whole lot of RC shops that carry DIY parts for mutli-rotors in my area but I found the Transmitter locally for the best price I could find anywhere including ebay.

Next up ordering the parts for the quad 250 size...
