For people that use their truck as a truck and want something even stronger than the flimsy plastic skin on the tailgate but still retain a fairly stock look, here is your solution, the Mobtown Offroad Tailgate Reinforcement Plate.

The plate is made from 14 gauge steel, then powder coated in textured black. You simply unbolt the OEM plastic skin and tailgate cap, slide this in place under the tailgate cap and bolt back down using the factory hardware. The skin does fit under the factory plastic skin if you want to continue to use that but get added strength. (Minor trimming required on plastic skin)

You also have the option to replace the cheap plastic clips in the tailgate with steel inserts and hardware., minor drilling required.

Part is in stock and ships within 1-2 business days.

Nice! I might look into these then paint a TRD logo in the middle.

What the top edge look like? Does it roll over the face of the tailgate?

Oh in his original thread he mentioned a two piece with a cap that followed the contour of the tailgate.

This is a separate piece that you can buy. It did arrive today, unfortunately the company made it wrong and have to rush me another. I am offering them separately for sale in case someone only wants the skin or just the cap.

You guys are inspiring me. Let me talk to my powder coat guy. He can powder coat multiple colors. I just worry it won't be a "clean" looking.

Looks real clean! Will you ever consider making one with bends in it for added strength?

I don't think so. I put a bunch of weight on the tailgate and it didn't flex at all, bends add cost which I'd have to pass on to the consumer making it too expensive.
