I've got these on a second set of wheels on the truck now, so I'm anxious to see how they do!

Combined with the Toyota 4x4 system, the traction control, a little bit of weight in the bed, and a deft touch on the skinny pedal you should be pretty unstoppable this winter with those. A guy I work with runs Dunlop Grandtrek SJ6 winters on his truck. They're a similar design to those Yokohamas, and he doesn't have any trouble in the winter.

 

That's about what I figured. Picked those because I ended up paying not much more than $300 for four brand new.

I've always had 4WD or AWD, good ground clearance, and snow tires. It's priceless to have a vehicle that will get you anywhere in the winter without white knuckles even if the roads hadn't been plowed and it's 2 AM.

Yeah, same opinion here. Living in the country where they don't plow half the roads until it's done snowing I've always thought that it was really important to be able to get out no matter what the weather's doing.
Plus I just like being able to go wherever I want whenever I want to.

A big hammer hit it...

30 to 40 tons coming at you at, say 50 mph, while you're going in the other direction at the same 50 mph will do that.

 

Well...
1) Plastic's brittle and prone to shattering when it's cold.
2) Some parts are probably from the truck.
3) Even if they were both only doing 45, they hit at a combined speed of 90mph. For that SUV, that means that it basically hit a wall at 90.

 

I thought the same thing. I would have thought it would have stayed a little more intact but guess not.

Well it looks like a GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe. So plastic bumpers, plastic grille, plastic headlights, plastic fender covers, plastic roof racks, plastic sheathing on the running boards, vent visors, etc.

Plus whatever parts came off the truck.

 

I'd have to see the cab before I'd make that decision. Plastic parts flying off in an accident like that doesn't mean anything. If the cabin stayed in tact and protected the driver through that, I'd be thoroughly impressed! Vehicles these days are made to crumble, I'm only concerned in how well they protect the people in side.

 

i agree with your thinking, but that cab didn't look so good to me

 

I don't think the vehicle really would have mattered. A side-impact like that is going to obliterate pretty much anything on the road.

I agree with you there. There was a lot of force in that impact. I wasn't kidding when I said I'd be thoroughly impressed if the cabin stayed in tact and didn't just crush.
