seeing as Toyota doesn't show a standard cab Tacoma anymore, might this suggest a new smaller truck is on the way?i'd love a new one for a daily driver.used standard cabs are rare down here.just a thought.

Probably not going to happen anytime soon. More people buy the AC or DC which are the cash cows for the dealers.

It's about gas milage and meeting federal guidelines. Its difficult to meet the milage guidelines on a 2/3 person vehicle. And they probably didn't sell enough 4cyl to be worth it. You won't see many standard cab trucks from any manufacturers.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Regular cab is done, those aren't coming back. Best advice would be to search remaining lots, bet there are some new 2014s sitting around somewhere.

The sales of the regular cab have just been too low for Toyota to justify keeping it in the lineup, they are loosing money on it is the main reason they are going bye-bye. That and the new CAFE standards will be too high for that truck because of the short wheelbase. The access cab and double cabs fall into a different MPG category because they are longer and heavier so they get easier standards to meet.

The need for regular cab trucks has gone away.

Used to be Dad had a truck, it was used to get him to work, and do chores(haul gravel, firewood, move construction supplies) ect. Mom had the family sedan that was used for hauling the kids, and groceries around.

Now trucks have be integrated into the family use category. My truck gets used as the family sedan in addition to the chores, and getting me to work.

Even companies are steering to quad cab and double cab trucks. Send a crew of 4 guys out with one truck instead of two. It only makes sense.

Driving interstate quite a bit in the last year, and on my 120 mile trip home on Friday I can count on one hand how many regular cab trucks I see.

I still have a regular cab truck, 1999 Ford Ranger 4x2 4 cylinder MT. I love it. Had it for years, but it doesn't get driven much because I can't take two kids with me in it comfortably.

This, sad but true. Used to be you'd see one truck in a driveway parked next to a boat sized 3rd row seat station wagon. For years it was that way, but times have changed. People now can have a family hauler and truck all in one package.

Maybe some of these will trickle up from Mexico. Low ride height with decent payload capabilities and fuel economy with the right powertrain.

I love my regular cab as much as the next guy... the short wheelbase is nice. However, I just can't justify them being practical. I get pretty piss poor gas mileage for what it is, and can't carry many people. We regular cab owners probably hate to admit it, but we took a compromise because we couldn't get a AC/DC. Probably going to get shat on for saying this... :p

I've had three single cab trucks. F150, Ram, and a Ranger. I like the looks of a single cab over all others, but they are just too small. I made the switch to an access cab, and it's sooo much better. Plus with the 2nd gens you can open the back part, which is even better.
I'll never go back to a single cab after being spoiled with an access cab.

HaHa...for some, that may be the case, but I can afford to drive any truck that I want and I am getting a 2014 Reg Cab 4x4 tomorrow. I just like them better than anything else. I had to have a 4 door vehicle for years to cart kids around , but now that those days are coming to an end, I'm going back to single cabs.

I know this is a GM product and I am not a fan of them, but Holden is still making the UTE down under!

It's a shame GM is going to close them down though. Holden has some of the coolest cars down under..... yet GM decides to shut them down SMH

Yeah it is a shame, they do make some pretty sweet cars down there, they also killed Pontiac and I loved my 68 Firebird!
