Our Costco recently started selling gas. Started around $3.30 but it's slowly climbing

87 $2.90 no ethanol $4.95 and most places will not fill a vehicle no thanks I get 20 MPG with 87 and I would faint when my fill ups went from $55 to $95 and there is not a shot of the mileage all most doubling.

What a rip off , difference between ethanol 87 and ethanol free 91 at my local station is about 12 cents / litre or 45 cents / US gallon

Ethanol clogs the carbs on older outboards quick.

Could you explain how a solvent clogs carbs? Moisture is a big enemy of boat fuel tanks and carbs that's why you'll find ethanol free fuel at a marina.

Hassler's in Womelsdorf PA sells 3 grades of corn-free.

I don't worry about it in my Taco or other vehicles although I dose them with a bottle of injector cleaner every so often.

But I run premium corn-free in my generator, snowblower, tractor in the winter, and less often used lawn gear like my logchipper and tiller.
Treat it with Stabil and Sea-foam.

I run the genny once a month and change out the gas every 6 months.
I don't want to be doing genny maintenance at 3am in a howling blizzard. :p

Most of the east coast has no ethanol free gas at all the only place you can find it is at a marina or an airport here in Maine. The expense is due partly to the fact that it comes from Canada (not pointing fingers). Maine's fuel is brought in by tankers so it is distribution more that any other problem so the air craft industry trucks it in from Canada. Be it a marina or an airport they are not really vehicle friendly either our local airport will not allow cars/trucks on the ramp probably for good reason prop aircraft are inherently dangerous unless you are in them. The marinas fuel pumps face the wrong direction for a vehicle and usually are on docks and the hoses will not reach. I don't know about any one else but there is no way I would go to the effort to fill my truck 5 gallons at a time for some thing that would give me very limited benefits.

good. It never should have been used in the first place.
It has a way lower energy potential than heptane/octane
    and it's hygroscopic AF

they're looking at butanol now though

You just said it. It dissolves the seals, gaskets and rubber lines that weren't designed to withstand ethanol. The extra crap clogs the passageways in the carbs, let alone all the extra moisture that can be picked up by the fuel. I use an outboard and only buy 91 or 93 octane gas and add ethanol fuel treatment to every tank. http://www.boatus.com/pressroom/release.asp?id=769#.VGiudijEmVU

Shell in my area sells ethanol free gas. It's about 30 cents a gallon more. I ran it in my 2013 4.0 TACO for about 2k miles and seen and felt no difference. Millage was the same too. Back to the regular stuff.

I track and log every gas fill.

Once it's gone it gone it is a shellac solvent when gasoline ages it forms shellac in any thing that has fuel through on a semi normal use it does not form. If you leave a lawn mower for a couple of years you'll have problems with it no doubt but you probably would any way. I'm sorry you have so much trouble with ethanol out of the 11 small engines and my trucks and cars we have here on the farm the problems I have had with them is 0% and I leave the fuel in them year round. Just started my snow mobile to move with last years gas it it has 2 carbs to gum up ran just fine all ways does. Maine has had ethanol fuel for 20+ years people hate it because they think it's a give away to farmers and blame any problems they have on the ethanol right down to a bad spark plug. Before ethanol was mandated people poured ethanol in there tanks to keep the moisture from freezing in the fuel lines.

Yep worst case could be maybe 12 miles per tank assuming 400 miles per tank (my normal mileage). A change in the weather could have caused that. There is heat value in ethanol if there wasn't it would not be used as race fuel it is not an inert filler.

Most of the stations around here have 10% ethanol. I found one near my house that has ethanol free 89 & 93 octane. I don't know what the numbers are but, I do know that given my regular drive to work and little bit of driving around on the weekend if I run the 10% ethanol I have to get gas every week and when I run the ethanol free I can go for two weeks between fill ups. I don't know or care what the difference is but, it works for me...

Checking pure-gas.org NM at least near Albuquerque has 3 places. A grocery store with no obvious fuel service, a repair shop with no obvious fuel service, and a performance center where I know you can buy fuel at a premium. Octane rating they carry are 100, 108, and 115. While it might be better for the truck I think that 115 octane might be a bit overkill for a daily driver.

100+ octane would not be good for a daily driver. I believe you can flag or edit locations on the pure-gas website if they are no longer offering fuel.
