I would keep my Tacoma stock before I would ever put a spacer lift on it. Don't waste your money on something your just gonna take out and replace. Do it right the first time.

I have 5100's and OME 885's and I love it. I'm about to upgrade to ICON stage 1. If you're on a budget, 5100's are the way to go in my opinion.

OP really needs to chime in with his budget, what his use will be and also if he's looking for a setup of just curious before we start throwing "real" answers around.

But I'd say the lift that costs the most. The more you pay the better OP
    hahahaha

Because of the ICON's more specific valving, The icons, to my knowledge, are valved more for higher speeds which to me means that they will ride smoother on the highway and running trails at 30mph as compared to my 5100's and 885's.

Fellas I just put a ToyTec 3" BOSS lift on my 2011 Tacoma with progressive AALs and new UCAs. Running 285/70/17s on factory rims. Very happy with the lift, ride and look -- could use some tips on alignment specs, though. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    For the OP:

At a solid 3" of lift, new upper control arms are pretty much necessary because when the time comes to align your truck, something (caster or camber, whichever you choose to sacrifice) is going to be out of specification, and it's going to wander all over the highway. Although not that intensive, new UCAs do through in a pretty significant additional cost overall.

But to do get 3" of lift on a relative budget:

Bilstein 5100 Front Struts: $180 (At 3" of lift, still have more down travel then Nitrochargers, so it won't top out as easy.)

OME 887 Coils: $160 (Coil gives ~3" of lift)

1/4" Top Plate Spacer: $8-$30 (Gonna correct driver side lean)

Dakar Rear Springs: $400 (Give rear end about 2 and 3/4" of lift)

Rear Nitrochargers: $220 (Have more down travel then rear 5100s)

U-Bolts: $60 (Need longer ones with Dakars)

UCAs: $375-$1100 (Depends on whose you get)

This is a tentative list of what it'd take to get that lift you want. Some people are gonna say you need different things, like new rear brake lines. But according to ARB, Dakars were designed to allow the use of stock rear brake lines. Don't forget this is without shipping, and most of the heavy stuff, it's quite a bit for shipping all this stuff.

887 coils? Wouldn't those be really stiff?

Well I didn't take into account that he is a prerunner, the 887s are the same spring rate as 885, they're just 5mm longer. So it very well could be that they may be a little stiff. Another option would be to get 884s and try adding top plate spacers to get the same lift, but I *think* they're still the same spring rate. I'll go look and see.

Edit: According to ARB, 884s, 885s, and 887s have the same spring rate at 590 lb/in.

Saying they are the same spring rate but longer is misleading. The longer springs require more preload to fit on the strut and therefore will be stiffer.
