Same here. I got 30 years under my belt and don't add any weight to the bed. If you do, tie it down! The last thing you want is to launch a cinder block in through the rear window if you slide off the road and come to a fast stop.

    Meh...

I've got aftermarket wheels though. The stock wheels have 5.25" of BS and my wheels have 4.5". That extra 3/4" is enough to clear chains on stock size tires.

^^ Hmm, very interesting, must still be close, but clearly it works. Why are you chained up on all 4 for an inch of snow though?

That was on the flat spot. I went to go up a steep hill and got about half way up it and skiied all the way back down it and then down:eek: Through the chains on, walked up it and then a few more without any issues. I was out elk hunting.

Makes sense - I figured there was a steep hill involved, or it was a test-fit.

In my first gen access cab Off Road I would secure two crates of bagged sand( 4bags per crate) at the wheel wells so that I could have better traction without engaging 4x4 around town. My second gen is double cab and have never added weight to the back and no problems at all. Must be the added weight of the double cab.

Bought mine there as well.. They seem AA+ OK to me so far !!!

Also, to EJF - You have 4x4 correct?? If so - no problem.

IF the Taco 4x4 can't easily handle the deep show - you should not be on the roads!!!

That's all I do...make sure the brush/scraper is in the truck and put on my snow tires.

Good time of year to check that emergency kit to make sure everything is there and working. Batteries for the flashlight, flares, warning signs, jumper cables, blankets, tow ropes, straps etc...

I'll throw a shovel in the back there to have just in case I need to dig out or help someone else dig out. Will also have my snow brush back there too.

Not sure if I'll put any weight back there. I used to put a couple of large patio stones in the back of my last truck but I used them this summer so they're no longer available. Heh heh. Will see how the truck behaves in the snow. If needed, I'll throw a couple hundred pounds of sand bags back there.

Did the wax rust treatment as well as fabric guard and paint sealant this weekend.

    Ready!

Weight in the bed is a must, regardless of two or four wheel drive. Two 50 pound bags of sand, one at each wheel well, does a nice job of keeping the light weight rear end glued to the snowy road. Common sense. Also, not driving like a dink during the crap weather, like most do in this particular state, helps to keep you on the road.

Seems like adding weight is old school thinking here... but, I'll probably do the same as you and add some sand/salt bags... I'll find a way to use em up by April. Besides, I burnt the ol' cinder block box when I sold my tundra anyways...;)

Got lot's of good advice from others too and it's much appreciated... Thank you!
