Ok but to be safe a lil lift might be the best way. And I don't care to trim just don't wanna have to change wheels.

Lift =/= tire clearance. That's only in the pavement princess world. When doing Coilover and spacer lifts you are just changing the ride height. You are not changing the geometry of the suspension. Full stuff stays in the same place, ie where you bump stops stop the LCA.

A drop bracket lift will change the geometry of the suspension and give you more clearance, but it does this by pushing the geometry down 2-4" and in a lot of cases you end up with less overall travel. Drop brackets lift weren't exactly built to be abused.

It's not going to be a pavement queen. I want to do bumpers and other mods. But want the truck to perform when needed. I do want it to set up lil higher.

2nd or 3rd or 4th that comment, lost count, lol! i did spacers, then 5100's and then did it right and did full coil and strut replacement, could have saved me like $1000 to just do it right in the first place. now with 3" lift in front and AAL in back it rides better than stock!

Is trimming any different with the plastic fenders? Not as in how much, but the places? I can still do the cab mount chop correct?

since the message doesn't seem to be getting across why not search the endless tire size and lift threads on this forum, there are shitloads of info on this all over the place.

Well you've seen this guy's Baja on 255's and he says it doesn't rub:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/332016-anyone-255-85-16-baja-suspension.html

Then there's LoadedTaco's Baja seen here on stock suspension and full on armor:
You'll lose some ground clearance with the added weight. If clearance is important to you, then I guess you can look into lifting and bigger tires.

I took my stock Baja off-roading this weekend with friends on lifted Taco and 4runner. The stock Baja kept up with them just fine. It was my first time out, so I was a little hesitant, but it just took everything I threw at it. The Baja suspension just simply worked as designed. I never bottomed out and the bumps were soaked up with ease by the Bilsteins. Very different from my experience with the standard Off Road Taco I had before. There were a few obstacle courses where I didn't try because of my lower clearance and lack of under body protection, but I can skip those for now.

I think I'm in the same boat as you. Not wanting to mess with the Baja factory tuned suspension, but want bigger tires or a little bit more lift. I personally will go with the 32's or 265/75/16 and call it a day. I do plan on armor skids and plate bumpers, so I'm debating on getting Dakar springs for the rear since I do carry a lot of items and occasional towing. I know I will lose the smoothness with the aftermarket rear springs, but the damn stock leaf packs can't take any additional load for shit.

In the end, if you want to climb rocks and clear obstacle courses, I think swapping out the suspension and fitting bigger tires are inevitable. But if you are satisfied with just the 95% of the other normal situations that you will ever encounter, the stock height is just fine.

He's got a baja so I think 5100s would be a downgrade for him...

As for long enough I dont know anything very specific about the baja shocks.

    Thanks man!

While I do want taller tires; I have been extremely happy with my 255/85 KM2's. I'm on my 2nd set now.

The problem with bigger tires and the mobbing that I do it that I am barely clearly my 33's at the moment. If I go to 35's or bigger I'm digging into major surgery to clear them at full stuff as well as fiberglass fenders all around... I want to get LT front and get everything dialed in better before I start cutting my firewall and inner fenders out and relocating the battery and all that jazz.

The 255's are a great tire that guys can bolt on and run with minor to no trimming. Give them a feel of what the truck can do and decide just how far they are wheeling to hack and beat their rigs up and they can start digging into the big mods with some more experience behind their belts. Because a Tacoma on 33's is already a pretty capable rig.

If you read, I said you need that if you don't want to do any trimming at full stuff. If you dont mind trimming anf what not you can run them with as little lift as you want
