somewhere in this thread there's a diagram or spec on how far to install the seal. You don't bottom it out.

If this is common at 30mph I think my issue is some thing else. I get vibs bad around 50-70. Never as slow as 30.

I picked up an 07' (stock no lift) and put some 265 75 16 BFG's on it. I noticed a little steering wheel shake so i climbed under and tadah! my drivers side CV shaft has alot of play at the diff. so I am gonna order the bushing and tool from ECGS. I also am considering replacing the CV shaft while I'm in there. Here is my question this my daily driver ( 60 miles per day ) is it gonna hurt anything if I put a couple of hundred miles on it before this gets fixed? the truck has 122,000 miles on it.

No,if you're going to replace the CV shaft. Driving may scar the bearing surface on the input shaft. You'll have to check when you tare it down. I had to change mine with only a couple hundred miles after my 2" lift and the vibration started.

I know this is an older post, but the CV's are the same length. Not only that, a CV shouldn't have 'play' between the shaft and a bearing to compensate for wheel travel. That dealer is full of shit.

I have had the bearing for a few months but haven't had the time to put it in. I can say cold does make the vibration worse. Hopefully putting it in tomorrow :D

Exactly the same situation with me.
Cold day today and it seems a lot worse.
It will be another couple of weeks before I can install the bushing in my truck.

Had a garage do the install last week. They charged 1.8 hrs which included a tire rotation which I think is not bad at all. So far vibe is 100% gone.:kona:

Had an appointment the with dealership yesterday about the growling/vibrations coming from my tacoma (2010 TRD with 39k miles). They were able to duplicate the problem and opened a case with Toyota corporate about it. Toyota corp came back with a response of "Its a common characteristic of the truck, and hes not the only one."

Toyota corp advised no repairs as its "normal". I argued/talked to the service guy and technician (super nice guys) and was advised to change out my diff fluid to 75w140. They said chances are it wont help anything, but atleast it'll show toyota corp that im trying recommendations to solve the issue. Was advised that if its still growling/vibrating in a month or so, to come back (after the diff fluid change).

Guys were super nice about it, thinking the next time i bring it in, they will push to get something done. My main concern was my warranty is up in 2 months and would hate for my diff to go bad in 3 months and be my problem. (hence why they advised i come back in a month if its not solved)

Told the tech about the ECGS bushing, though that was cool. He was also saying the tundras have the same issue (he has one with the issue) and was curious if they made the bushing for those.

Sorry for the long story, figured i would throw it out there though.

I put Royal Purple in the diff after changing the bushing. Works good but I have no reference to whether RP would help without the ECGS bushing.

You are going to waste your money and time just so you can get more of a run around from Toyota. AND you won't solve the problem! So solve the problem once and for all and put the ECGS in and be done with it. BTW the Tundra dif is the same as the Tacoma with the same problem, and can be solved with an ECGS as well surprise. Toyota wanted me to put a whole new dif in my truck but was going to give me a discount of $1000 on the $3000 job, very nice of them don't you think? I had an independent shop put the ECGS in for me and changed a wheel bearing and was done for less than $500. Working great for 30,000 miles since. Toyota is nuts about this issue and is inconsistent, they have allowed dealers to put the ECGS in to solve the problem. Check out previous posts.

Mine failed without a lift. Just a matter of time and use. If you have the problem AND you WILL, just put the ECGS in and move on.

Yes we make the Tundra bushing also http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-18979362-toyota-9-reverse-clamshell-bushing.html The problem is actually more common in the Tundras then the Tacomas. The Tundras develop the growl problem much early and with no lift. Toyota has a TSB for it http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/attachment/112249-TSB 0121-08 T9R Front diff growl.pdf but most dealers will not fix it. We just did a local one. He went to 3 dealers all wanted to charge in excess of 3k . We Fixed for less than $200. It was a bone stock Tundra 70k mileage.
