Stronger and supposedly safer than using a winch hook since you use a shackle to secure the winch straps to the winch line. Also butts up against the fairlead for a cleaner look when not in use.

And it's super useful for lightening your wallet :D

I have one because the ARB doesn't have anything on it to attach the winch hook, and I like that it protects the eye on the winch line from the elements a little more.

yep, im not a fan of using a hook on the loop so i was gonna put a shackle on the loop and connect to the the shackle mount on the new pelfreybilt bumper but the look and use of the flatlink is bad ass so i went for it :D

I thought about it but I'm going to stick with Eldora this year. I do mostly back country but I'll go to Eldora too. I just don't like i70 traffic anymore.

Why don't you just hook the ends of the strap togeather with a shackle and then the hook to the shackle. Waste of money IMO, even at $20 off.

Not all winch hooks can close around a 3/4" shackle. I know that the hooks included with Warn winches can, but for other winch brands - Engo comes to mind - it won't (JLink's Engo hook didn't fully close around his shackle so I gave him mine, which did). Plus the shear pin in the winch hook is probably thinner and weaker than the titanium one used in the Prolink/Flatlink.

I agree that the Prolink/Flatlink are probably overpriced, and a lot of that is the bling factor, and one can get by without spending that much.

^^^^ yeah we never hook straight up to straps here at work. We always shackle everything. But then again we are always pulling serveral tons at a time.

Even if the hook won't close around a shackle, you should be able to put the shackle bolt through the closed hook. If you can't, you need to return your atv winch ;)

I just took my hook off and put a shackle on the eyelet if I need to use it. I noticed the comment about the hook not fitting over a shackle...

 so why use a hook at all?

Austin thats what i was gonna do is just use the shackle and eyelet on the synthetic line but ended up getting the Factor 55 flatlink instead, this also saves the first couple feet of the synthetic line from hanging out in the sun while attached to the shackle most of the year where the sun can wear out the line. i knew i didnt want to use a hook at all :)

if i was to just leave the eyelet hanging out of the hawse fairlead it could get sucked back into the fairlead and damage the line or fairlead so eric had recommended at least a rubber isolator behind the eyelet so it wouldnt get sucked back into the fiarlead.

Yeah I have steel line so I just take the shackle off and leave the eyelet in the cast fairlead BARELY pulled in so there isn't pressure on it at all.

Have you had to use your winch?

The problem I've had with my steel line is that if I don't keep tension on it, the slack will cross over itself on the spool making it very difficult to pull the line out by hand.
