Description
The subject vehicles’ rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank.
Remedy
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this condition.

Some ugly welds and worn out leaf springs from a solid front axle setup?

 

I'm waiting patiently for my shiny new springs.

 

I bet it's a retainer clip to prevent a snapped leaf from penetrating the fuel tank.

Maybe, but a clip isn't going to keep them from corroding, flattening out, or breaking. Mine aren't corroded, but they are flat as a pancake. The 3 leaf system is a sad joke on these trucks. Anyhoot, if they wont fix it right, I will.

I don't think they have a 'solution' or 'a plan' yet.

If you actually break one and you take it in, they'll replace 'em.

These recalls & extended warranties tend to get rolled out slowly and by states.....

Even after they are 'opened up' by state....it takes a while before the dealerships are ready to perform any work.

 

Seeing how Toyota has told other members that broken leaf springs are a wear item , I'm going with them only being concerned about the broken piece of the spring not being able to go into the fuel cel , so retainer clip being added , similar to what they did for the 12+ models which aren't part of the recall seems the most likely solution

 

Your probably right Oz. There's always wishful thinking, but they will most likely throw us a bandaid. My springs are flat and the truck barely has 50K on it. Seems like a ridiculous item to be replacing already. I had to replace the rear coils on my '95 runner dragging it's ass on the ground at about 75K. I put in a much thicker Moog coil and it improved the ride a lot. I'm getting bummed with Toyota quality these days.

 

I asked the parts guys at my local dealer and they said they are now authorized to replace broken springs as part of this. Wish that had been the case last year when one of mine broke. I bought aftermarket 3 leaf replacements which were great for about 5k miles. Now they are sagging just like the originals did. They "think" the fix is going to be a new 4 leaf spring for everyone. Which would be awesome, but somehow I have a suspicion it'll be a clamp around the springs.

 

i asked toyota what they would do since mine already broke 2 years ago and i repalced them on my dime. they said the only way toyota would reimburse me for the repairs and the costs of the springs is if i sent them a copy of the receipt stating that they broke and the only repair option was replacement and it had to be done at a Toyota dealership.

welp, i'm screwed on that one...

 

My driver side leafs broke,Saint John Toyota says 800.00 to fix.They say I will get my money back,in 6 months! Any body else in Saint John,N.B.

Close, I'm in Fredericton and work at Point Lepreau.
So far so good with the springs - I have Ride Rite air bags so I don't expect any problems.
Having the clock spring air bag wire harness replaced at Clark's Toyota in a couple weeks. They are aware of the spring recall notice and will let me know when there's a fix.

 

Toyota says that there is a recall notice, but there is no "official" order to do the work? I'm on my own?

Don't pay to get the shitty stock leafs , if you have to shell out that much money get the Wheelers HD leaf pack

 

It's not the leafs,it's Toyota saying I will get all my money back.But they don't know when.
